Kuffed Around

Rail, no rail -- who cares? Culberson's in.

Charles Kuffner's always been an energetic and astute interpreter of local election results; the guy positively revels in wallowing in the nitty-gritty of precinct-by-precinct breakdowns. He's got the latest info on the year's election posted now on his blog, Off the Kuff. Among his findings: U.S. Congressman John Culberson's vehement stance against a light-rail line on Richmond didn't really help him much.

Culberson won the precincts that included the Afton Oaks neighborhood, which has been the most vocal against the proposed rail plan. But other precincts along the planned route went for challenger Jim Henley in bigger numbers than they did for Culberson's opponent two years ago.

There have been several Richmond-area neighborhood groups that have become aggressive in saying the Afton Oaks folks don't speak for them. Apparently they backed up that claim at the ballot box. -- Richard Connelly
