Get the Boo Blues

Shoot, we'll take this guy's blues any day of the week.

Still stuck for what to do on Halloween?

Well, here's our musical recommendation: the Mucky Duck's "How Blue Can You Get?" party with Texas Johnny Boy, Milton Hopkins and Earl Gilliam.

Texas Johnny Boy calls himself an 'eclectic bluesician,' which means he sings and plays harmonica, flute and saxophone. JB led a local group called Johnny Boy & the Kings back in the late 1980s, but then he moved to Dallas so we haven't seen him for a while. He got back to Houston last year and has started performing again.

Milton Hopkins was BB King's bandleader and rhythm guitarist back in the day. He spent a decade with BB before he came back home to Houston and played local joints like the late Reddi Room. Pianist/organist Earl Gilliam is considered one of the best blues musicians around theses days, an accolade he really deserves.

So, if you like the blues, here's your chance to hear some of the best Houston has to offer. And the oldest, too. Between JB, Hopkins and Gilliam, there will be more than 200 years of blues music expertise on stage. - Olivia Flores Alvarez
