Can't Mess with Texas
There was a big honkin' parade in NYC that ran from Madison Avenue to Times Square this afternoon. And it was all for Texas.
"Don't Mess with Texas" has beat out 25 other well-known slogans for Advertising Week's 2006 Walk of Fame contest. Some of the losing catch phrases include Nike's "JUST DO IT.", the California Milk Processors Board's "Got Milk?" and Burger King's "Have it your way." TxDOT's slogan won with more than 400,000 votes. (Just wait till "HouStoned: Puff, Puff, Pass!" is eligible.)
I called TxDOT's Brenda Flores-Dollar, who promises pics and video of the parade from the Big Apple soon. I asked if there were any wild parites at the TxDOT headquarters, given the big honor and news today. "No, sir. We've just been very excited here knowing that Texans really enjoyed the slogan."
C'mon...nothing? At 5 p.m. on a Friday — in Austin? Not even some bubbly? "Well, we're a state agency...we can't drink during work hours."
