Oh, Slap!

Fisticuffs? Let's hope they turn around and make up.

First Press prom king Ray Hafner spotted it on KPRC. Then it started buzzing around the blogosphere:

President Bush slapped Al Green.

Whoa — could Dubya have decked the Reverend during a soulful rendition of "Let's Stay Together," perhaps? Da-yam! Worse still, could 43 have smacked Congressman Al Green, the distinguished gentleman from Houston?

Apparently so, according to some blogs. Reuters's explanation of the image that's now circulating around the Web is "U.S. President George W. Bush playfully slaps U.S. Congressman Al Green (D-TX) as he greets delegates following his remarks at the annual convention at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Washington July 20, 2006."

I called Green's D.C. office this morning. Staffer Rosemary Manesis was completely unaware of any slap smack, but seemed to think the whole thing was pretty funny. We'll have to check with Green when he gets back into town. All we're sayin' is that G-Dub better check himself. Al's full of fire. — Steven Devadanam
