See this smile? It's the same one chef Kevin Naderi will be wearing if he takes home the Iron Fork for the fourth year in a row. Who can stop him? One chef has taken on the challenge.

The chef-owner of Roost and Lillo & Ella has won every single Iron Fork competition at Menu of Menus since its inception in 2012. Is he unbeatable?

Well, one notable chef doesn't think so, as he has stepped up to take his turn at trying to remove Kevin Naderi from the Iron Fork throne. Who is this new contender?

The 5 Best Brunch Spots in Midtown

You may recognize this classic Southern breakfast from our No. 4 pick.
In Houston, we're pretty serious about our brunch. Whether it be migas and breakfast tacos or chicken and waffles and loaded Bloody Marys, we have no shortage of awesome spots to get our brunch on. Keeping later hours and killer cocktails in mind, we'll be taking a look at some of our favorite spots around town. See the complete list at the end of this post.

This week, it's all about Midtown.

Note: For the purposes of this post, Midtown is defined as south of I-45 (the Pierce Elevated), west of Highway 288, north of Highway 59 and east of Bagby (for the most part). See the map here.

Honorable Mention: Diner classics at Harry's (which falls just outside our borders), big Southern plates at Natachee's Supper 'n Punch, and $1 mimosas and Tex-Mex fare at Gloria's.

Menu of Menus® Draws, and Wows, Huge Crowds of Food Fans

Photos by Kaitlin Steinberg
Kevin Naderi works on a dish at Menu of Menus.
Silver Street Station had a lot of new things going on for Menu of Menus® this year. Air conditioning, for one, had people happy to be inside eating warm comfort food from spots like Frank's Americana Revival and Fish & the Knife. There was a lovely photography show up on the walls as part of Fotofest. There were new restaurants like Verts Kebap, Heights General Store and Nara debuting their food for Houstonians, some of whom had never tried it.

But one thing remained the same: Kevin Naderi, chef of Roost, won the competition this year for the third time in a row.

The competition, emceed by Randy Evans of Haven, was fierce--it wasn't clear what Naderi was making until the very end of the 45-minute time limit, while Kevin Bryant, chef of Eleven XI, was very transparent about what he was preparing. In the end, though, Naderi edged out Bryant with his use of the secret ingredient: citrus. The judges all agreed that Naderi put the ingredient to use better than Bryant did, though Bryant's incorporation of the twist ingredient, bananas, with a pistachio mole was masterful.

There's still time to get tickets for our most delicious event of the year.
Wow, what a week it's been for Menu of Menus®. Fifteen new restaurants signed up to join us on April 8 (that's next Tuesday) from 7 to 10 p.m. at Silver Street Station for food, drinks and the epic Iron Fork competition.

BB's Cafe will be on hand, no doubt serving up delicious Cajun-style fare, as will J.W.'s Original Cajun Boudin Hut.

If Latin food is more your speed, Peruvian restaurant
La Guitarra con Sazón will be joining us, along with Trenza, a Latin American/Indian fusion restaurant from celebrity chef Susie Jimenez. Also bringing some South American flair to the mix is Batanga, a tapas restaurant featuring Spanish and Latin cuisine. Batanga won't be the only tapas joint in the house, though; we'll also have Andalucia providing more traditional Spanish bites.
