Upcoming Events: Feast on Eel at Kata Robata & Get Ready for Houston Restaurant Weeks
Kata Robata will celebrate Doyo-no-ushinohi, Day of the Ox during the Doyo period, on Tuesday, July 29. Basically, it's a day of feasting on freshwater eel in Japan. Chef Manabu Horiuchi will prepare a variety of freshwater eel dishes (unagi), as well as ones featuring saltwater eels (anago). The specials will range from $3 to $22. One of the featured dishes prepared by Chef Hori will be unagidon, sliced eel on a bed of rice. Some of the specials will still be served after July 29, but not all of them will be offered.

Get your tickets for this Farm to Table Dinner at No Label Brewing Co. on Thursday, July 31, at 7 p.m. There's only enough seating for 40 people, so don't diddle daddle. For $70 per person, the brewery will serve a five-course meal beginning with appetizers of prosciutto-wrapped hot peppers stuffed with provolone cheese, and olive-sausage skewers with calamari salad; these will be paired with Eleven Amp IPA. Next, guests will be served a salad consisting of Ale-steamed mussels, grape tomatoes and smoked bacon with toasted bread, paired with El Hefe. The fish course features shrimp with quinoa, cucumber and a mint mango sauce paired with 1st Street Blonde. Next, the brewery will serve grilled herb beer marinated rib eye with a sweet potato and chorizo hash paired with Ridgeback Amber Ale. For dessert, indulge in a grilled pineapple crepe with orange crème anglaise sauce, paired with Azacca Hop Solo.

It's back! Houston Restaurant Weeks kicks off on Friday, August 1, lasting until Monday, September 1. Check out the list of participating restaurants to choose where you want to eat; restaurants will offer dinner ($45 or $35), brunch ($25) and lunch ($20) menus, with corresponding donations to the Houston Food Bank of $7. $5, $4 and $3; some will offer all three menus, while others will offer only one or two. HRW is a great way to try out new restaurants and old favorites as each of the 165 participating restaurants have concocted delectable prix fixe menus featuring options for everyone in your party. Remember to treat the waitstaff kindly as this time of year always brings in more customers than usual.
The folks at El Big Bad want to celebrate the birthday of the late Adam Yauch's, aka MCA, of the Beastie Boys, on Tuesday, August 5. Beastie Boys Day begins at 4 p.m. and will feature an evening filled with lots of music from the Beastie Boys, along with screenings of the Criterion Collection of their music videos upstairs. Listen to some music and sip on a variety of drink specials named after the group's work, such as Paul Revere Punch, High Plains Drifter, Professor Booty with Shasta soda and Root Down with beet-infused tequila. There might also be a costume party, so dress appropriately.
Fleming's Prime Rib Dinner special has returned and will be available on Sundays and Mondays (as opposed to only on Sundays in years past) until September 1 at all Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar locations. Feast on a three-course prime rib dinner for $29.95. Start with either a Fleming's Salad with candied walnuts, dried cranberries, tomatoes, onions and herbed crostini; The New Wedge Salad featuring grape tomatoes, crispy onions, caramelized bacon and blue cheese; or the Modern Caesar with romaine lettuce, Parmesan cheese, fried capers and crisp prosciutto chips. The second course includes the main attraction -- Fleming's Prime Rib with au jus, horseradish and dijon sauces, plus a side of your choice, such as chipotle cheddar macaroni and cheese, sauteed French green beans or a loaded baked potato. Cap it all off with a chocolate lava cake, walnut turtle pie, carrot cake or a simple bowl of ice cream.
