The 5 Best Hidden Restaurant Gems in Galveston

Some of the most authentic Mexican and South American food on the island can be found at El Mercadito.
2. El Mercadito Y Taqueria
It may not look like much from the outside, but El Mercadito Y Taqueria is the real deal. Like Mike's, El Mercadito is part convenience store and part taqueria, but it's the tacos that really have us excited. The breakfast tacos with homemade tortillas are the best on the island, and other dishes like huevos rancheros and enchiladas with green chile sauce demonstrate that this is much more than just a market. It is a great place to pick up hard-to-find Mexican and South American ingredients for your next beach cookout, but why do the work yourself when you can just eat there? The salsas are vibrant and spicy, and the horchata is perfect on a hot summer day.

For the best deals on whole fried fish in town, check out Honduras Food.
1. Honduras Food
Though the name doesn't demonstrate much creativity, the dishes that come out of the kitchen at Honduras Food certainly do. The small Honduran restaurant offers some of the cheapest and best whole fried fish in town, and the platters of fried plantains and fish topped with cabbage and fresh pico de gallo are ideal beach food. The charming interior is decorated with Honduran soccer jerseys, and this would have been a great place to watch the World Cup while the country's team was still in the running. Try any of the fried seafood dishes here, but don't be put off when your food comes out staring at you. If you prefer dinner without the head still attached, try the carne asada, coconut seafood soup or massive pork chop.

We tried Los Molcas tonight and it was delicious!  We'll definitely be going again.

The Stork Club at 21st and Post Office, our crew's go-to place during Dickens on the Strand.  Food is great, prices are great, the walk from The Strand is short but picturesque.

Cool! A list that doesn't have any of the shitty Fertita restaurants in it.

It's like you guys went on Yelp and said "hey let's just pick 5 random spots, and go heavy on the Tex Mex for that Galveston article." What a joke!!!

Why can't you format tour website so its not a click-through. Ridiculous.

That's the list of a staggering drunk trying to sober up. Jack's pub? You've got to be kidding me. This "list thing" is getting out of hand, and a waste of time.

No Galveston hidden gem list is complete without including Sonny's Place!

@bhoward1

I went there for the first time a month or so ago. They heat up shit in the microwave.

@bhoward1 Sonny's Place is great, but I think it's pretty well known. I wouldn't really consider it hidden, but it's a gem for sure!
