Glazed Opens Soon & Offers Gourmet Doughnuts 24 Hours a Day
You may think we have enough doughnuts in Houston. Christy's, BB Donuts and Shipley Do-Nuts provide us with simple glazed yeast doughnuts and other cake options; Peña's Donut Heaven creates wild and crazy treats topped with everything from Froot Loops to Reese's Pieces; and now we have a mobile doughnut truck, Doughmaker Doughnuts, serving up trendy baked and fried morning pastries. But, out of all the places you can grab fried rings of dough, none of them are open 24 hours a day. That's where Glazed comes into play.

Owner Ose Ohen decided to separate himself from the rest of the doughnut-scene in Houston by offering crazy flavor combinations and an ever-changing lineup of treats. Oh, and he decided to remain open all day. To him, doughnuts are not reserved for your morning commute.
"What we are doing is gourmet specialty doughnuts 24 hours a day, made in house by scratch directly by our pastry chef and our chef in the kitchen," Ohen says. "We are going to have things such as a Red Velvet Cake doughnut, a triple chocolate, a nutlava, which is kind of like a baklava that you can find at a Mediterranean restaurant; we are going to have crème brulee, we're going to have a Sangria-infused [doughnut]. We are doing all of these different types of combinations in a doughnut for the cake doughnuts and also the yeast-based doughnuts. We are also offering an assortment of gluten-free and vegan doughnuts, as well."
Ohen traveled around the country, and to several parts of the world, gathering information about this gourmet doughnut trend, which helped him create new and exciting combinations. He visited the famous Doughnut Plant and Dough bakeries in New York, as well as Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, Oregon, home to the Bacon Maple Bar Doughnut and Voodoo Doll Doughnut.

With the culinary talents from his pastry chef Tish Winters and chef Courtney Lindsey, Ohen was able to bring his 24-hour gourmet doughnut shop to life. Unfortunately, his original plan to open by Friday, June 6, National Doughnut Day, has been pushed back a few weeks. But, Ohen assured me that Glazed would be open by the Fourth of July weekend.
As the name implies, the glazes will play a major role in creating out-of-the-box flavors.
"We have a wide assortment of glazes," he says. "We have everything from a vanilla glaze [to] a blueberry glaze, she [Winters] has a Dr Pepper glaze, a honey-based glaze, a bourbon [glaze]. She has all kinds of glazes, actually."
Glaze will be a consumer-driven business, so if customers have a demand for a specific flavor or doughnut-glaze combination, Ohen and the chefs will be more than willing to try it out and sell it. But, for now, customers will be able to purchase the pre-set options; some will be familiar in taste, like the Red Velvet Cake doughnut, while others might not.
"I really think that jalapeño-citrus is going to shock people. I mean we have traditional doughnuts from Greece, Italy, Mexico. We have a combination of doughnuts from all over the place," Ohen says. "I think the wildest one would be the Nutlava, which is the play on the baklava, or the jalapeño citrus. It's actually spicy and sweet. The jalapeños are obviously spicy, but the citrus makes it a little sweet."
Glazed will also serve kolaches filled with BBQ beef, a Scottish egg, roast beef, turkey and other similar fillings; these will also be available all day long.
