Ten Best Places in Houston to Get Your Next Cake

No fondant here, thanks!
8. Dacapo's Pastry Cafe
Some cakes get so decorated that they cease to resemble cakes any more. They might be pretty, but you wonder what had to be done to make the fondant no longer look like food. Dacapo's cakes manage to be beautiful and still look like cakes. The bakery, which has been serving the Heights for 15 years, uses fondant occasionally, but is much more likely to use rich, luxurious icing on simple but high-quality cakes. Choose from unusual flavors as well, like chocolate strawberry delight, banana split, pear and pumpkin maple cream.

7. RJ Goodies
At RJ Goodies in Spring, the owners say the best part of operating a bakery is "watching the children in our community grow up through the cakes that we create each year for them." The bakery specializes in cute children's birthday cakes with fun decorations and illustrations. They encourage people to bring in photographs or simply give them a theme, and they'll take it from there, creating works of art out of butter, sugar and food coloring.

How on the ever-living earth is The Dessert Gallery not on this list?! I am in shock! I created an account just to post that comment, too!

Dacapo's makes a damn good cake. My wife and I had a great wedding but I think the only thing anybody remembers about it was that cake. Three years later people still bring it up.

technical or fundamental techniques.Relative value is often used as a synonym for market neutral, as strategies in this category typically have very little or no directional market exposure to the market as a whole. Other relative value sub-strategies include:

Bon Appetit Magazine named the Tres Leches at Cordua Restaurants Churrascos and Americas one of the top ten cakes in The U. S. No one tops the tres leches by David Cordua and Michael Cordua.

Seriously??? Do you even know the east side of the city EXISTS???? There is a huge city to the east of 610 and Westheimer... I am sure you have been there.. We have AMAZING bakeries in the Southeast side of town, I have friends who swear by the east side of downtown for goodies... Open your windows, there is a great big world outside of Southwest Houston and Katy...

These are all good choices and interesting. But if you are tight and want to spend a little less, Hot Breads Bakery on Hillcroft does wonderful cakes for probably 30% less than these other places.

Think you wrote just this week about the little Indo-French bakery with generations of experience and pricing that makes it worth the drive.

I agree they only pick people close to downtown :/ West side is awesome too.

Yeeeaaaah, El Bolillo is a straight-up east-side legend.

So there's that.

I think the East side of Houston is way under-rated, sorta like the East side of Chicago
