Uni is about so much more than sushi.
Hank On Food: Hank attended the Goose Island Preview at Hay Merchant recently and taste-tested a few beers from the brewery. He enjoyed the Sofie, which he says tastes of citrus (even though it is a Belgian-style Saison), as well as the Rasselbock, a dark wheat ale with hints of malt and plum. His favorite was the Bourbon County Stout with Intelligentsia Coffee -- he gave it an A+++.

Food & Wine: Chelsea Morse of Food & Wine explains that more and more chefs and restaurants around the country are using uni in many of their dishes, such as at Provisions in Houston, where you can enjoy the roasted garlic and guanciale pizza topped with raw sea urchin. Could uni be the new bacon?

The more chocolate, the better.
Smitten Kitchen: This week, Smitten Kitchen features a recipe for dark-chocolate coconut macaroons. She believes that if you're going to have a chocolate dessert, it must be ueber chocolaty, and these cookies meet that requirement. They're made with unsweetened chocolate, sweetened coconut flakes, sugar, cocoa powder, egg whites, sea salt and vanilla extract.

The Pancake Princess: Ever heard of baobing, Taiwanese shaved ice? Better yet, have you heard of vegan Taiwanese shaved ice? Well, Erika shares a vegan recipe for this dessert originally made of fine shaved ice, fruit, condensed milk and ice cream. Her vegan twist features a coconut condensed milk made from full-fat coconut milk, brown sugar, vanilla and sea salt. She suggests adding fruits like chopped mango, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries or even watermelon. Top it off with a scoop of ice cream if you're feeling overindulgent.

Houston Food Truck Reviews: David Sarkozi visited The Pink Taco food truck at Midtown Mobile Cuisine for this week's food truck review. He ordered the beef fajita pink taco. (Yes, it is made with a pink flour tortilla.) It's stuffed with meat (of course), lettuce, pico de gallo and lime juice, and it's only $3.

Patty and David Said...: Patty and David visited new restaurant Kuu to celebrate one of their birthdays with friends. It was their first time visiting the restaurant, which is located across the freeway from the Memorial City Mall. The group of friends all feasted on the surf and turf of wagyu and unagi, followed by nigiri and the Poseidon roll, composed with tuna, salmon, yellowtail and tobiko. They finished off the meal with ginger cake and green tea ice cream.

I wonder how many folks recall that Taco Cabana's tacos were originally made with pink tortillas.  They were a miserable failure and one of the reasons Two Pesos dominated them.
