The Most Underrated Pizza in Houston... According to You

This pizza from Pink's is delish...but probably not underrated.
Okay, Houston, let's talk pizza.

This city has a surprising variety of pizza for a region so burger- and barbecue-happy. There are some incredible Neapolitan-style wood-fired pies from places like Dolce Vita and Pizaro's, late-night munchie slices from Pi Pizza Truck and solid delivery options from Pink's and Pizza L'Vino. Boheme makes unusual lavash pizzas, and Provisions piles on the interesting toppings. We've got it all, except, maybe, Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. If someone can find a decent deep-dish pie in Houston, please do let me know!

I also want to know where you go in town for pizza that other people might not consider. Does your favorite greasy pie come from a food court? Is there a bar in town slinging a super slice? Is there, after all, a great spot for some Chicago-style pizza?

After previous reader-curated posts about underrated restaurants and underrated burgers, you know the drill.

You've got a week to shout out in the comments, on Twitter or on Facebook. We want specifics, not just restaurant names. Tell us which pizzas you love. And tell us why. You might just find your comments in the follow-up article.

Each comment counts as a vote. I'll then tally how many votes each pizza gets. If the decisions are all over the place (as they were with underrated restaurants and burgers) I'll take it to a runoff poll.

So tell us: Which pizzas in Houston are the most underrated?

Pizza L'Vino has my vote. Absolutely delicious every time I eat there, very easy to place orders online, friendly staff. I do wish their location was more welcoming to eating in house, though.

I ask you… what does underrated mean? To you?

That the place isn't on any published lists?

That it was once "good" then got bad and is now good again and people just don't know about that?

Is it underrated because someone reviewed it, published it, and it was "bad" but they missed a couple of other menu items that really make it stellar?

Is it underrated because it's not on anyones public list?

There are three that I haven't been to, so they are underrated for me.

Pink's Pizza is without a doubt the most underrated pizza place in Houston. I have yet to be dissapointed by the quality, service, and overall satisfaction of a Pinks pizza experience. We NEED more Pinks locations!!!! LOVE IT!!!!

Pink's Pizza! With a humble storefront and friendly staff, Pink's has never failed to deliver. I'm stoked for the slices at Summer Fest!

The most underrated Pizza in Houston is Brothers Pizza on N. Shepherd in Garden Oaks. The staff is exceptionally friendly and the pizza is always fresh and fast!

Bombay Pizza is a gem.

The crispy thin crust topped with the unique fresh ingredient combinations hit the spot every time. Everything is great but the Gateway of India and Mitul's Masala are exceptional

I feel like Star Pizza's deep dish is better than their regular.

Pink's Pizza, Dolce Vita, Boheme, and Pizza L'Vino are by far the best places to have pizza in Houston.  Not in a specific order as they all offer something different depending on what you're in the mood for but these are some of the few places that my boyfriend and I are repeat customers.

In a city with so many new places it's often hard for us to choose to repeated eat at one place however, each of these offers something that is beyond better than their competition.  Who else puts pork belly on a pizza and pulls it off the way Boheme does?  Who can put clams on their pizza and it be strangely mesmerizing like Dolce Vita?  Pinks is hands down the best delivery pizza option when in the mood for a hand tossed pie of deliciousness.  And Pizza L'Vino blows Starr Pizza out of the water, period.

Whatever happened to California Pizza Kitchen?  Goes to show you, at one time it was so hot, and now it's not!  My choice would be Romano's!

Seriously people...You have not had Pizza till you have had Pizza L'Vino.

Absolutely hands down without a doubt the best pizza ever...I drive from Jersey Village for this Pizza and by the time I get home it's gone...I only hope they will have one in my area soon...But in the mean time I will continue to make the drive to satisfy my pizza craving.

The Ultra Thin Chicken Popeye is my fav!

Nick's Place off of Westheimer has a deep dish called Whattsamatta - U Special that is awesome but so filling. You definitely need a few people to finish it.

Romano's off of West Gray is my favorite place to go to grab a slice of cheese.  They have way more to the menu than just cheese but that is a classic New York Style slice.

If i'm going to add a chain then it has got to be Grimaldi's although it is slightly more expensive.  The thin crust coal oven pizza is awesome and I usually create my own when I go.  The ingredients are super fresh plus they have the diffferent sauces for those that aren't huge marinara fans.

Flakey's Pizza!! They deliver anywhere inside the loop til almost 3am for free and offer the ONLY vegan pizza in the city that offers vegan cheese AND vegan meats (when they have them) and doesn't charge you extra. So the veggie pizza with vegan cheese and vegan chorizo and it's all fresh and hand tossed.

Franks Pizza.  Only reason I say they are underrated is I cant remember seeing them mentioned anywhere.  Great NY style pizza.  Plain cheese outstanding.  Cheese rolls.  Did I mention 2 buck St. Arnold bottles?

Domino's. Period. And yes I know it's terribly un-pc of me to say, but Domino's satisfies my hunger hard-on like no other. I get it loaded with everything, including anchovies and pineapple and jalapenos, and just sit nibbling on the couch with a few paper towels tucked into my shirt. Occasionally I'll chuckle  (and slightly choke) as the food network is airing something about artisan pizza, how it takes a miracle to create authentic Neopolitan pies. Guys, it's really not worth your lather. Domino's knows.

The Crawfish Pizza from PJ's Sports bar is interesting...it's like a crawfish pie, but textured into pizza form.  Spicy and Delish, but not sure if it is just a seasonal thing or not.

Papa Murphy's! You wait while we create a pie. And wait while you drive it home. Then you get it home. And wait some more while it bakes. Seems like a real money-making business model.

@kariann925 Because it is owned and operated by the original owner of Star Pizza.  He sold out a number of years ago and is now back in the game with Pizza L'Vino.  I work acrosse the street, so it is real handy.  And agreed, very, very good and consistent.  Off to Kenneally's, all this pizza talk made me hungry.
