Upcoming Events: Bottomless Martinis & Valentines for Houston Veterans
On Monday, January 27, Osteria Mazzantini will host "Whiskey, Dinner & Cigars". The whiskey cocktail-paired four-course meal crafted by Chef John Sheely costs $125 per person. The evening begins with smoked scallop crudo prepared with celery leaf, shallots and lemon, as well as roasted grapes served with ricotta salata, radishes and a pine nut vinaigrette. The reception will also include a cocktail made with ghost whiskey, Aperol, grapefruit and cilantro. Enjoy carrot soup paired with Greenore Irish whiskey for the first course, followed by roasted quail with pears, walnuts and prosciutto paired with a true Old Fashioned. For the third course (and final savory dish), each guest will enjoy slow-cooked pork shank coated in truffle honey, served with turnips, baby fennel and lentils; this course is paired with Laphroaig quarter cask. Round out the meal with a flourless chocolate cake served with cherry chocolate ganache and cherry gelato, paired with Canadian Club, Amaro Montenegro and mole' bitters. After dinner, guests will enjoy cigars and a presentation of rolling cigars, accompanied with Laphroaig 10 years. The fun begins at 7 p.m.

Saint Arnold has a couple of events coming up in the next week, beginning with Valentines for Veterans on Thursday, January 30, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Head to the brewery to create Valentine cards for veterans and raise funds for two veterans' organizations in Houston, Team Red, White & Blue and Expedition Balance. While you craft your lovely cards, snack on food from H-Town StrEATs and Fraiche Mobile Kitchen; five percent of the proceeds from these two food trucks will go to both organizations. Grab something sweet to eat at the bake sale, which will feature products from a variety of Houston's pastry chefs and amateur bakers; 100 percent of the bake-sale proceeds will go straight to the two organizations. Each ticket (available for purchase only at the door) costs $10, and $5 from each ticket will be donated to the two veterans' organizations.

Next up for Saint Arnold is the BBQ Block Party with Louie Mueller Barbecue on Sunday, February 2, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Make sure to purchase these tickets in advance, because the brewery will not sell any tickets at the door. For $26, you will have the opportunity to sample an unlimited amount of barbecue and enjoy two pints of Saint Arnold beer -- of course, you may purchase additional beer if you so desire. And you can't have a block party without something sweet, so Rebecca Mason of Fluff Bake Bar will be selling her pastries and desserts. If you want to take home some barbecue for your Super Bowl watch party, you can purchase whole briskets and beef rib racks from Louie Mueller Barbecue in advance. Each brisket costs $90 and each rack of ribs will go for $60. The only caveat is you must have a ticket to the block party to purchase and take home the barbecue products.
Drink the night away at Martini Madness, hosted by the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft on Thursday, January 30, from 7 pm. until 10 p.m. This year's theme is "A Night in Havana," so fill up those special handmade artisan martini glasses (you get to take one home!) with bottomless tropical cocktails and martinis. Embrace your favorite Mad Men character when choosing your mid-century cocktail attire. Each ticket for this event costs $150 for non-members and $125 for HCCC members.

Chef Monica Pope of Sparrow Bar + Cookshop and Chef Maurizio Ferrarese of Quattro at the Four Seasons Hotel are offering two opportunities for you to spend some culinary time with them on Saturday, February 1. While you can purchase the "Urban Chefs Go Local" package for $599 for two, which includes a night's star at the Four Seasons (valet parking and 20 percent off in the spa included) and the two culinary events with the chefs, you can most certainly purchase any of these items a la carte.
The first event begins at 10 a.m. at the Urban Harvest Farmer's Market. The chefs will help you choose the best fruits, vegetables and local products. Then, the group will make its way to Sparrow Bar + Cookshop for an 11:30 a.m. hands-on cooking class with Pope and Ferrarese. This individual event is priced at $100 per person.
The second event includes a four-course wine dinner at Quattro. Pope and Ferrarese collaborated on the menu and paired particular wines with each dish. You may choose any reservation time for dinner; this individual event is priced at $100 per person.
