Recipe: Make Your Own Adults-Only Hot Cocoa

'Adults-Only' Hot Cocoa. Because tepid chocolate beverages aren't just for kids.

Baby, it's cold outside.

Just because we were not victims of the polar vortex doesn't mean we don't deserve a wintery liquid treat to help us cope with the sub-sixty degree temperatures. Hot chocolate or cocoa is the classic choice and there are certainly plenty of good options in Houston. (And there will be more cold weather in our area before spring arrives.)

If, however, you're looking for a little kick to your cocoa, you're better off making your own adult version at home. I mean, I guess you could take a flask of Jack Daniels to The Chocolate Bar and spike their libations, but let's try to keep it classy, Houston.

During our most recent cold snap I experimented at home with ways to make adults-only hot cocoa (technically, it's not hot chocolate), and here's my preferred recipe.
