Update: The casting call date for Houston has been moved to January 12.
Do you love to cook strange dishes with uncommon ingredients? Or do you love to think out of the box when creating new recipes? Well, SPIKE TV's new show Frankenfood is for you, and on
Sunday, December 15, Sunday, January 12, the network is holding an open casting call in Houston.
Everyone from chefs to average Joes and Janes is invited to Sharespace on
the 15th January 12, beginning at 10 a.m. to present their crazy culinary creations to two judges and hosts -- New York City chef Josh Capon and actor/restaurateur Tony Luke Jr.
Whitney Parshall, the casting producer of SHARP Entertainment, says the casting call is a "show and tell" format in which each contestant will present at least one serving of his or her pre-made dish to the judges.
"We are looking for almost-next-new-food crazy-type dishes," Parshall says. "Really unique outside-the-box dishes, uncommon ingredients, uncommon combinations -- sort of to create something totally new that's never really been thought of before."
If this is right up your alley, then fill out the questionnaire on SHARP Entertainment's casting website for Frankenfood, or send an email to email@example.com.
The show is currently in the pre-production stage, and contest details are still pending. But according to Parshall and a recent press release, the winner of each episode will receive $10,000 and their dishes will be featured on a guest restaurant's menu.
Obviously, dishes must be edible, so the network isn't interested in "gross-out food." However, this is not a cooking show where those with the most culinary talent will automatically win.
"That's the really neat part about the show, that we have Le Cordon Bleu-trained chefs head to head perhaps with a grandma who has done nothing but home-cook her whole life, but she could win if her dish is more innovative," Parshall says.
Send in your questionnaire, or contact the network to set up an appointment and bring your A-game, Houston!
