Cheap & Good Eats: Top 5 Budget Lunch Spots in the Washington Corridor

We love Cuban and fish tacos at our No. 1 pick.
1. El Rey Taqueria

It goes way beyond tacos at this Cuban and Mexican counter-service and drive-through joint, though that's not to say the tacos aren't delicious. We love the Cuban taco, loaded with chicken fajitas, black beans, plantains and sour cream, or the El Rey, stuffed with flaky, freshly grilled tilapia, red cabbage and habanero mayo. Both are only $2.55 each; but for $7.99, you can pick any three tacos and get a side of Mexican rice and pork-laced charro beans.

But like we said, it's not all about the tacos. El Rey's golden-skinned rotisserie chicken is pure magic, and at just $8.99 for a whole (or a half along with a side of rice, beans, salad and tortillas), you're sure to walk away happy. And it may be even better shredded into their spicy and hearty chicken tortilla soup ($4.39 for a small, $7.25 for a large).

Los dos amigos? And anyone who thinks Givral's on Douchington avenue is good is crazy..

Laredo accepts credit cards.  It has for some time now.

Where is Les Grival's?  I can each cheaper there than TQLA, Sammy's, or Soma.  El Rey and Laredo beat them out price-wise, but it is hard to beat a $3 Bhan Mi.

I'm surprised not to see Pollo Campero on this list. The chicken isn't even the reason to go; they have lots of Latin dishes that are very, very good and very reasonably priced.

I think all these are ON Washington itself, with the corridor being excluded. Therefore my pick: La Fisheria!!!

count on anything with el tiempo in the name to be overpriced rather than budget priced
