Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Yes, this pop-up bakery has occurred every Saturday since November 2, but that doesn't mean it's not one of the best things to do this weekend. Spend the morning or afternoon in the lounge at the restaurant munching on fresh baked goods, such as cinnamon rolls, cookies, eclairs and miniature holiday pies. Don't forget to grab some baked goods and homemade products to take home. Pastry chef Samantha Mendoza has created jams and pâté, brioche, sourdough and bags of chocolates. Thanksgiving is less than a week away, so share some of these splendid treats with your friends and family during the holiday. Plus, the brioche bread loaf is perfect for making French toast. Save it for family members coming into town on Thursday.

Cottonwood has opened its doors for celebrity cook John Mueller to take over the kitchen and put his hand to brisket, handmade sausage, beef ribs and BBQ side dishes during the Q for a Cause II fundraiser event benefiting Mayor Annise Parker's "Housing Houston's Heroes" initiative, which provides a permanent home for homeless Houston veterans. Last February, Mueller came to Houston for the first Q for a Cause event and sold nearly 1,000 pounds of meat, resulting in $7,500 raised for Houston veterans. Now, he is back to cook twice that amount. In addition to the BBQ, the day will include live music, a silent auction, sales of T-shirts and other merchandise, all proceeds of which will be donated to the organization. Cottonwood will also serve cocktails, wines by the glass, Lone Stars for $2 and a variety of beers on tap. Mayor Annise Parker will attend.
