The owner of Mah Express was fatally shot during an armed robbery on Monday.
A suspect opened fire on Monday at Mah Express, a Chinese restaurant at 4565 Griggs Road, fatally shooting one man and wounding his brother. The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. Police say the suspect, identified as an African-American male, demanded money before shooting inside the restaurant.

The owner of Mah Express, Cheun-Weih Mah, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the wounded victim, Victor Mah, 46, was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital; his condition was unknown.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. L. Holbrook and Senior Police Officer P. Vela released the following information in a press release.

An unknown black male suspect entered the Mah Express restaurant at the above address and placed an order for food. The suspect then pulled out a gun, fired at least twice into the kitchen and demanded money from all of the employees.  The suspect then fired shots at Victor Mah and Cheun-Wei Mah.  Victor Mah was struck in the hip. Cheun-Wei was struck and died at the scene. The suspect stole cash, went to a nearby parking lot and fled the scene in a newer model, white sport utility vehicle, driving westbound on Griggs.

HPD is currently investigating the shooting. If you have any information about the crime, contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

We will update this story as additional information is released.

Today we had a prayer service at Mah Express to offer our condolences to the family and to signify that this community will not tolerate this type of behavior if anyone has further info on the services we would love to know. These were good people and they will be missed in our community.

I just ate there this past weekend! Chicken & broccoli, egg roll, egg drop soup - the big portions! Nice guy - the one time I actually met the owner. Prayers to the family.
