Grand Opening & Half Way to Mardi Gras Party @ Mojeauxs Louisiana Drinkery
Saturday, 11 a.m. to Sunday, 2 a.m.
2024 Rusk St.

Get ready to stuff your face with gumbo and dance to some Zydeco at Mojeauxs Louisiana Drinkery's grand opening on Saturday. The party begins at 11 a.m. with live music and drink specials, and at 1 p.m. the gumbo cook-off begins. I'm particularly excited about the gumbo cookoff as yours truly will be helping to judge the competition by eating as much gumbo as humanly possible. A $10 ticket gets you samples of every gumbo in the running, but admission to the event is free. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

One-Year Anniversary Party @ Underdogs Sports Pub
Saturday, 5 p.m.
4212 Washington

One year ago this weekend Underdogs Sports Pub opened its doors to man and canine alike, so now it's time to celebrate with some craft beer and your furry best bud. Underdogs will have their usual beer selection (a dozen taps with Texan craft beer and another 100 or more bottles) as well as drink specials barbecue to keep the party going. As always, dogs are welcome!

White Linen Night in the Heights @ First Saturday Arts Market
Saturday, 6 to 10 p.m.
548 W 19th St

White Linen Night in the Heights started in 2006 as a way to help Heights businesses survive the dog days of summer. Six years later, it's become a huge event celebrated by the entire neighborhood. Food trucks will be out in force at local businesses and restaurants and cafes will have food and drink specials and lots of free samples. There will be live music, art and demonstrations of all shapes and sizes throughout the neighborhood. Bring your kids, your pets and a designated driver, 'cause there's lots of free booze to be had! Also, wear white linen. Duh.

MFAH Mixed Media Designed by IKEA @ Museum of Fine Arts Houston
Saturday, 8 p.m. to midnight
1001 Bissonnet Street

On Saturday night, a team from IKEA Houston will be transforming MFAH into what they're calling "a multi-sensory experience." There will be dancing, live music and local DJs, ice sculpting and, to cover the sense of taste at this crazy fête, snow cones from Kona Ice food truck. Of course, since the party is 18 and up and snow cones are kind of a kid's thing, there will be an ice luge to spike your snow cones with vodka. There will also be a cash bar for those of you who gave up ice luges back in college. The event is free for MFAH members and IKEA family members and $10 for everyone else.

Benefit 4 BB Bartending Competition @ VWF Post 8905
Sunday, 12 to 9 p.m.
21902 Hempstead Highway

Local bartender Brian Bernardo passed away unexpectedly at the end of June, and this weekend he's being remembered at a bartending competition and celebration in Cypress. Bartenders will be using BJ Hooker's vodka to create special shots. The winning shot will be featured at Flying Pig Sports Pub. Jon McConnell, Justin Grant and Robert Swonke will be providing live music. The event is free to attend, and there will be a live auction, silent auction and a raffle. Barbecue plates will be sold for $10, and all proceeds will go to the Brian Bernardo Benefit to help his family.

Thank you for noting the MFAH/IKEA event is 18+. The Ikea site doesn't say this, and I incorrectly assumed that since it was being sponsored by Ikea Family that it was all ages. Very glad we didn't drag the whole family down only to be turned away at the door! White Linen Night it is. :)

@DrGF How was White Linen Night? I wasn't able to go, but I heard it's usually fun!
