Top 5 Uses for Leftover Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Maybe you got a little too excited about Kroger's sale on refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough. Maybe the neighbor's cute kid suckered you into buying two tubs of dough for her school's fundraiser. Or maybe doubling that recipe for chocolate chip cookies seemed like a good idea at 7 p.m. when you arrived home from work starving and just wanted to eat sweets for supper. Inevitably, however, you find your supply of dough exceeds your desire for more cookies. In any case, here are five ways to get rid of it.

Why not use leftover chocolate chip cookie dough as:
5. A Cake Layer. See my earlier post lobbying for the wonder that is cookie cake. But if that's not your bag because it's simply too much cookie, use the dough as a third or middle layer in a regular cake, such as this one designed by Sprinkle Bakes.
4. A Form of Cement for Gingerbread House Construction. I wouldn't recommend using chocolate chip dough as an adhesive for the roof since the weight of the chips might prove too much for your graham crackers or gingerbread. However, dough with moderate-sized chips (not chunks) can make for a wonderful "stony" foundation for your candy cottage or be used to line a walkway or side path.
3. A Base for Dessert Pizza. Roll dough out onto a floured cutting board in a large circle or simply line pizza pan with dough. Bake in oven preheated to 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until dough is slightly brown. Top with chocolate sauce, candy, fruit or nuts (see here for a gazillion ideas) and bake for an additional 2-3 minutes.
2. A Mix-In for Ice Cream. Buy a tub of vanilla ice cream and leave it out on the counter for about ten minutes to soften the contents. Dump into large metal bowl and mix in smalls bits of dough. Refreeze and serve when desired. Note: Probably best to keep this treat to yourself because, you know, raw eggs, salmonella, tainted food, lawsuits, blah, blah, blah.
1. An Alternative Sports Drink. Add half a cup of dough to about 8 ounces of milk. Blend and drink the night before your next endurance event. Anecdotally speaking, I can attest this combination can really pump you up for a morning run. Seriously, the folks at SNL were on to something.
