Ever thought to pair Whataburger with wine?
Jack Around: Sandy Witch Sandwich Company opened last week, so Jack checked out the new food truck from Pi Pizza Truck owner Anthony Calleo. Sandy Witch Sandwich Company serves up a variety of sandwiches with daring ingredients, like the Madame Blavatsky, which features brined chicken, and the sandwich with Dr Pepper braised short rubs, collards and honey mustard.

CultureMap Houston: Ever thought to pair Whataburger with wine? Marene Gustin had the limited-edition avocado bacon burger from Whataburger with a bottle of 2010 Duchman Family Winery Vermentino for what she calls "a very nice summer lunch."

Delicious Mischief: The best way to have soup in the summertime is chilled. This unique chilled tomato-peanut soup recipe from Delicious Mischief uses ingredients that combine smooth peanut butter with celery salt, tomato juice, onions and milk to create an African dish.

Bayou City Bites: If you're looking for a place to grab some kolaches around Hobby Airport, head over to The Original Kolache Shoppe on Telephone Road. Get one of the classic sausage and cheese kolaches for a simple yet tasty breakfast, or switch things up and try the roast beef and bacon kolache that has dough like that of an empanada.

Urban Swank: 1252 Tapas Bar has updated its menu and Urban Swank got a sneak peek at the new offerings. Among the favorites were the Patatas Bravas with fried potatoes, lemon aioli and a brava sauce, and the Montadito, complete with house-cured salmon, goat cheese, truffled honey and sourdough bread. Pair any of these new menu items with a white sangria or blueberry lemondrop.

29-95: For a delicious dish with summer tomatoes, listen to Alison Cook and head over to Reef and order the beefsteak tomato salad. This beautifully assembled salad with bright yellow and red beefsteak tomatoes is topped with fried tempura onion rings and a house-made Russian dressing.

My Voice Nation Help

CultureMap gets my nod for Houston's most inane restaurant writing. Or writing period. There have been lots of jokes lately about the stuff they're churning out there, and it's been a fun site to watch for a wide variety of errors, from grammar and spelling, to basic inaccuracies that they report so gushingly.
