Many restaurants closed this week, but will be reopening soon.
This week brought more openings and reopenings than closings, so let's start with some reopenings. Eater Houston reports that Marfreless, the makeout bar that closed in March of this year, posted an announcement on its website on June 14 that it will be reopening at the same location in River Oaks by the end of the summer.

The website notes that, "Although we will be under new ownership, we promise the same unique atmosphere, premium menu, friendly staff, and neighborhood charm."

In other reopening news, The Palm Steakhouse announced on Facebook that it will be reopening July 8. The restaurant has been completely renovated, and will also include new lunch menu items.

On Saturday, June 22, Houston Food Park will open in EaDo. The Houston Chronicle reports that from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., about nine food trucks will take part in the grand opening festival. The location can hold up to eight or nine food trucks, but the Houston Food Park team has plans to expand the lot to hold more than twice that amount. On Monday, June 24, Houston Food Park begins serving lunch every day.

Morningside Thai will also reopen on Saturday, June 22, at its new location at 2473 S Braeswood.

B4-U-Eat's Newsletter also reports that Mark's BBQ-Catering will close on Saturday, June 22. However, the restaurant is working on building a mobile unit, as noted in a post on its Facebook page, that should be open by the end of July, so you can still get your favorite BBQ dishes from them this summer.

In other food truck news, Pi Pizza Truck owner, Anthony Calleo, has decided to create a brick-and-mortar location to sell sandwiches. CultureMap Houston reports that Sandy Witch Sandwich Company has leased the kitchen of Grand Prize Bar in Montrose and will sell his witch-named sandwiches there.

If you can't wait for Dunkin' Donuts to arrive, check out River Oaks Donuts that opened on Thursday, June 13. According to CultureMap, two billionaires, Mindy and Jeff Hildebrand, decided to open a donut shop in River Oaks because the other donut shops were too far away from that neighborhood. They serve donuts with colorful and decorated icings and even filled donut holes.

Sadly, Chef Aldo El Sharif of Aldo's Cucina Italiana decided to close his restaurant in Shenandoah; B4-U-Eat's Newsletter says that a Bennigan's will be taking the space in July. The Woodlands did receive a new sushi restaurant on Sawdust Road. Zato Thai & Sushi, originally located in Plano, opened on Saturday, June 1.

B4-U-Eat also notes that Fajita Jack's in Montgomery closed on Sunday, June 16, and opened Friday, June 14, at its new location at Waterpoint Marina off Hwy 105 W. Uncle Tony's also lost its lease in Porter, however, the restaurant has a new location in Conroe.

Villagio's Italian Grill closed due to a disagreement in the leasing contract with the property owners. A note on the website's homepage says, "We are currently looking at other locations to move Villagio's Italian Grill and will update this website with any new information regarding that search."

Washington Avenue will receive a Sonic soon.

In happier news, Washington Avenue will be getting a Sonic Drive-In around the middle of July, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. You can't complain about another location to grab a Happy Hour soda and a side of tater tots, or a breakfast burrito on the way to work.

On Wednesday, June 18, the Houston Chronicle let us know that First Colony Mall in Sugar Land received Tucanos Brazilian Grill. Now we have another place offering meat on skewers.
Jal -- The Grille, a barbecue restaurant off of the Southwest Freeway also opened in Sugar Land. The restaurant announced on Facebook that it held its Grand Opening on Saturday, June 15.

B4-U-Eat reports that Kemah received Skallywag Suds N Grub. We are not too sure what the restaurant's menu looks like, but it will be serving burgers, and most likely potatoes in some shape or form.

McDaniel Hill, a Texas Family Café in Richmond closed its doors a couple of weeks ago, and according to Facebook, the restaurant is working on reopening as soon as they can.

Alison Cook ran into Pico's owner and chef, Arnaldo Richards and got an update on the opening of his new Kirby at Richmond location. Rather than opening in early June, Pico's Mex-Mex Restaurant is looking at opening around July 11.

Swamplot reports
that the old Queen Burger location on W. 18th St. will become Hughie's Tavern and Grill, an Asian fusion restaurant. From the looks of the restaurant's Facebook page, Hughie's is close to opening.

Another location of Spaghetti Western is coming to W. T.C. Jester, but Swamplot reports that a restaurant employee says it won't be open for a few more months due to renovations.

Midtown will also host another bar. CultureMap Houston says 3rd Floor Bar is an elevated bar on the ... drum roll please ... third floor. The bar will feature American made craft beers and 50 wines by the glass from its wine preservation system. Check out its Facebook page for photos of the view and progress on the location's construction.

Pico's moving is breaking my heart.  And more importantly, the heart of my 6 year old daughter who proudly proclaimed it to be her "favorite restaurant" to her first grade class.  It's a bummer and will be sorely missed.

That's pretty try-hard. Where can I file an official complaint? Insert: "This is why we can't have nice things" image here.

* What may be the first of it's kind for a mall in the Houston area, Baybrook Mall will soon have a wine bar where shoppers can stop in for a glass of wine. The name of the wine bar is Corks and Caps. The grand opening is July 1st.

* Baytown is getting it's first wine bar by the fall of 2013. The name of the wine bar and coffee shop is Cork Grinders, located at 206 W. Texas Ave.

* SnowBlock Shavery is an Asian shaved ice dessert eatery opening soon in Rice Village (2518 Rice Blvd.). The estimated opening date is sometime in August.

* West Houston will soon be welcoming Wild Alaska Tavern. The bar and grill will have the feel and look of a tavern in Alaska, as well as Alaskan craft beers on tap. Wild Alaska Tavern will be located at 12126 Westheimer.

* The Blind Tiger Whiskey Tavern, an upcoming speakeasy type bar, will be opening soon at 6824 Wilcrest.

* Bambu Desserts & Drinks is expanding its presence in Houston. The Bay Area store opened its first location in Houston in Little Asia/New Chinatown area last fall/winter on Bellaire. Three more locations are slated for opening this year: North Point Plaza (   3010 Gears Rd, Houston, TX 77067), Hobby Airport/Gulf Freeway (9820 Gulf Fwy, Houston, TX 77034), and Willow Plaza (13411 Tomball Pkwy,  Houston TX,  77086).
