Don't worry, Houston, the Dunkin' Donuts at S. Shepherd is still coming.
If anyone has driven by the future location of Dunkin' Donuts at Shepherd and Fairview, he or she may be wondering where the "Coming Soon" sign has gone. No, Dunkin Donuts hasn't changed its mind about setting up shop in what is destined to become the most centrally located Dunkin' in Houston.

According to Susan A. Schmaeling of Susan A. Shmaeling APR, this future Dunkin' Donuts location is still coming -- the timetable just has changed.

"The process of permitting takes time," Schmaeling says. "It is definitely coming."

The buzzed-about location was originally set to open in late June; however, the opening has been pushed back to later in July. Schmaeling says the process of opening up and getting all the equipment for the new site is taking a little bit longer than was previously projected.

The other three locations coming to Houston are still on track, as well, to come to Houston. The East Lake Houston Parkway location in Humble will be coming in late August, the Fairmont Parkway location in Pasadena will be opening in late July and the IAH airport location inside Terminal E is still on track for the summer.

So have no fear, Houstonians, Dunkin' Donuts is still coming to the South Shepherd and Fairview location, just a little bit later. Get excited about the grand opening, though. Schmaeling says there'll be a surprise for guests on opening day. She didn't say what the surprise will be, but it might have to do with cash.

Um, there used to be one on S Shepherd between Richmond and W Alabama back in the day, so I'm not really seeing what the big deal is now.

Before anyone else comes in here and crys blasphemy on all that is Holy Shipley Donuts, let an ex-east coaster tell you the real deal.

I LOVE Shipley Donuts, the melt-in-your-mouth taste of their plain glazed donut (when fresh) is second to none.   Glad to get that out of the way.

Dunkin Donuts is a donut shop in name only.  People go to Dunkin Donuts primary for their coffee.   The last time I ordered coffee at Shipley's I had to pour it out of a coffee maker myself.  Try any of the Dunkin Donuts' hot or iced flavored coffee, lattes, and coolatas and you will never go back to Starbucks.  It tastes better and it's cheaper.  They also have a good selection of hot breakfast sandwiches/bagels.  Their donuts are arguably their weakest link, although their "munchkins" donut holes are pretty good.

This is more than likely a franchise and you may be disappointed

They closed down a perfectly good Arby's Restaurant to replace it with a perfectly awful Dunkin Donuts.  What a travesty.  If you want good donuts in the Montrose Area, go check out Christie's on the corner of Montrose and W. Gray

This is the end. Dunkin monopolizes the playing field everywhere they show up (a la every major east coast city). Say goodbye to Shipley's and every local, beloved donut shop you've ever enjoyed.

Why are they making a big deal? There are already Dunkin' Donuts in Houston. Or do they mean a Dunkin' Donuts that ISN'T in the ghetto?

Oh boy! I cant wait to go in there, not get a receipt, take video of myself acting like a complete jackass insulting the employees, and then post it on FB as if I am proud of myself! I'm gonna be famous y'all!!

Had Dunkin Donuts the other day while travelling. Also had Shipley's about a week ago. Shipley's is way better than Dunkin Donuts. It's not even close. That is all.

@cda57 : The only disagreement I have with that is that Christie's has, well, donut shop hours. If I want donuts for dinner (BECAUSE I AM AN ADULT AND CAN DO THAT), my primary option right now is HEB and their bakery.

If they're open, I'll still go to Christie's preferentially, but if it's after 2, I'll have options once Dunkin opens.

(Also : I'm not positive, but I've heard scuttlebutt that the Arby's would be closing anyways due to some managerial issues.)

@David Means

I miss that place so much!   You are talking about the location on Westheimer and Hazard  that has been closed for a while?  That building was the best and the couches inside and big windows overlooking Westheimer.  So relaxing on an early morning.
