McDonald's new Egg White Delight McMuffin is a good healthy breakfast option.
In an effort to lighten up its menu, McDonald's offers new breakfast sandwiches made with egg whites. With its new motto -- "Turning breakfast on its head" -- McDonald's has reduced the calories in various breakfast options by employing egg whites instead of eggs and white cheddar cheese instead of American.

The chain has lightened up breakfast items from its Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit to its Sausage, Egg and Cheese McGriddle -- and even the Big Breakfast with Hotcakes. I decided to try out the new Egg White Delight McMuffin in comparison to the ever-favorite original Egg McMuffin to see if saving 50 calories, five grams of fat and 235 mg of cholesterol is worth it.

Which one will you choose for breakfast?
The Egg White Delight McMuffin, coming in at just 250 calories, is surprisingly good. If you're looking to save some calories on the go, I recommend the lightened version of the Egg McMuffin. Trust me, you won't miss the American cheese and regular egg.

The egg whites are super fluffy, soft and go quite well with the smooth white cheddar cheese. This lightened breakfast sandwich is fortunately the same size as the original version. While many lighter menu items at fast-food restaurants, or any restaurants for that matter, sacrifice size or flavor for the sake of lowering the amount of calories, grams of fat and grams of carbohydrates, the Egg White Delight does neither.

Both McMuffins are full of flavor; one is just healthier than the other.
Both sandwiches are the same size, and the egg whites in the lighter version are piled high on top of the lean Canadian bacon and white cheddar cheese. You also can't tell the difference between the whole grain English muffin and the original English muffin.

If you're on the go, need a quick bite to eat and want to start the day on a healthy note, the Egg White Delight is a great option. Props to McDonald's for offering something healthy, tasty and cheap.

Thank you for this story. Small businesses like the one featured don't have big advertising budgets for TV and print ads, nor for thousands of billboards. I hope to see much more of this. I do have an idea for a future story- there's this delightful little beverage company out of Atlanta. They make a tasty carbonated beverage. They need some press too.

Healthy?! What a joke. Hormone fed chickens that have never walked lay those eggs. Not to mention all the preservatives and artificial flavoring. How bout we support our local food system, and buy from farmers/ food establishments operating with integrity...heres an idea, write a piece on who in this city is really buying farm fresh eggs and produce.

Does it still have cheese? The cheese is the source of most of the calories. The egg whites only knock off like 50 calories. Get the fat free latte and skip the hash brown, that's where your calories are hidden (still stick to the Egg McMuffin though - the other breakfast sandwiches are loaded with calories and fat, and the egg whites won't make much of a difference when your "bun" is made from basically a pancake and you're eating bacon or greasy sausage).

I was thinking the same thing. They took perhaps their healthiest breakfast item, then took out the best part to save 50 calories.  I guess chicks will dig it but I can't imagine a dick-wielding man getting into this.
