Why I Can't Stop Thinking About Reef's Happy Hour

I mean, I can't...
Happy hour is most definitely my favorite part of any day -- is that bad? Don't answer.

I love checking out new places, of course, but there's nothing like going back to an old favorite. And right now, I can't stop thinking about one of my all-time favorite spots: Reef's 3rd Bar -- the swanky side bar attached to the seafood restaurant that has some of the best deals in town.

You should probably be thinking about it, too. Here's why:

Take the sliders pictured above, for example. Take a good look at those babies! They are $1 each. ONE DOLLAR! I had to write it out because I still find it to be the most fantastic thing in the universe.

Reef's sliders are no joke. The mini beef burgers are heavily seasoned, thick and surprisingly; the homemade, sea-salt-topped buns are pillowy soft and lightly grilled, creating a buttery, crisp crust on the inside; the caramelized onions develop a deep sweet-and-savoriness from cooking low and slow; and the spicy Sriracha rémoulade dipping sauce? Well, I can swim in it.

Since that'd be weird, I give my burger a healthy smear and about every other bite a nice dunk. Do yourself a favor and order yourself a few of these. Or if you're shameless, a platter -- I've seen it done.

I could likely live off the beef sliders alone, but there are other foods to be had.

I had to throw the sliders in one more time.
Like the shrimp shooters (also $1) -- amazingly plump and meaty shrimp served in a shot glass with a superbly spicy and refreshing cocktail sauce. I kind of wish there was vodka in it, too, because it tastes like I'm dipping the shrimp in the most amazing bloody Mary, and, well, any excuse for more vodka works. I'll take two, please.

Last time I was there, I gave the Margherita pizza a try. The $5 flatbread topped with a light tomato sauce and creamy, milky fresh mozzarella, and curls of sweet basil was definitely enough for two when coupled with an order of sliders. They have a bacon and caramelized onion pizza I've been eyeing as well. Next time.

Wash all of this down with a couple of $5 housemade skinny margaritas or 3rd Bar's special vodka-punched lemonade and you have yourself quite the HH meal. I for one can't wait to go back.

Reef's celebrates Happy Hour Monday through Friday 4-7 p.m.

For a modest fee, they'll add liquor to the shrimp shooters. I think tequila was mentioned, but I bet they'll work with you....

(I do recommend the bacon & caramelized onion pizza. And the blood orange margaritas.)
