Tequila & Tamales Takes Place Tonight at La Mexicana, and It's Free!
At last year's Tequila & Tamales throwdown, TQLA surprised attendees by taking home the night's big prize -- but not for tequila. Instead, the Southwestern restaurant (pronounced, yes, "tequila") won Best Tamales while the margarita madmen at El Gran Malo won Best Margaritas.
For this year's Tequila & Tamales event, we have not one, but two returning champions -- as well as two new faces eager to compete for your votes. Tonight at La Mexicana -- the home of Tex-Mex in Montrose since 1982 -- the following restaurants will be offering up their tamales and tequila concoctions from 6 to 8 p.m.:
Pico's Mex Mex
El Gran Malo
La Mexicana
TQLA
The competition, which is sponsored by Eating...Our Words and Houston-based Izkali Tequila, will provide free samples throughout the evening. The first 150 guests will get one tamale and one margarita each from the four restaurants, then vote on their favorites. Stick around until 8 p.m. tonight, when we'll announce the winners.
