Coming soon to the Galleria: a brand-new Liberty Kitchen.
Love the gumbo and raw bar at Liberty Kitchen, but hate driving into the Heights? Good news -- especially for Galleria-area food fans -- because owners Lee Ellis and Lance Fegen are launching a second location of the seafood restaurant in the space formerly occupied by Vida Sexy Tex-Mex.

The spot at 4224 San Felipe, which was vacated by Vida in September, is still owned by Vida's former show-runner, Trey Melcher, who is leasing the space to Ellis and Fegen. Liberty Kitchen and Oysterette -- the new location's name -- will be the pair's fourth restaurant in Houston, including BRC Gastropub and Petite Sweets.

Here's hoping the new Liberty Kitchen will have the same great gumbo.
In a press release, Ellis and Fegen called the new 4,000-square-foot Liberty Kitchen and Oysterette a "big brother to the original Liberty Kitchen," and said that it "should be described as 'similar but not the same.'"

Fans of Liberty Kitchen's original location can expect "the same is great food and service, supported by a high energy, focused staff," said the duo.

Liberty Kitchen and Oysterette plans to open in spring 2013.

Liberty Kitchen is perfectly fine where it is in its current location, lol! I live close to there.

who in their right mind would rather drive to the galleria than the heights?

@carriebwc People that live and/or work in and around the Galleria area? People that are in Memorial or Tanglewood or one of those neighborhoods and would rather shoot down San Felipe than deal with the construction on I-10? Just making some guesses...

@kshilcutt Fair enough.  I just can't stand to get involved in the traffic over there, especially during this time of the year.

@carriebwc I hear ya. I worked over there for several years and do not miss those traffic snarls one single bit.
