Cajun Oyster Stuffing at Yapa Kitchen.
You know what I love about SeptembeR, OctobeR, NovembeR and DecembeR? It's oyster season! During these months, oysters are at their peak. For the next few weeks, I'll be sampling the most memorable and tasty oyster dishes in Houston.

No. 2: Cajun Oyster Stuffing at Yapa Kitchen

While turkey is the ostensible star of the Thanksgiving table, anyone with half a taste bud knows America's holiday meal is all about the side dishes. Forget green bean casserole or candied sweet potatoes; each November, I devote at least half of my Thanksgiving plate to stuffing.

And while I welcome all forms of stuffing with open arms (especially if someone else makes them), I tend to gravitate toward any variant that includes oysters. There's something about the combination of soft, salty mollusks and butter-soaked bread crumbs that makes my hair curl. When I spend the holidays with my father's side of the family, I can rely on any one of my lovely aunties to replicate my grandmother's famous oyster stuffing.

But, alas, this year, I'm staying home in Texas for the holiday. Thank goodness for (1) my adventurous alpha chef husband and (2) Yapa Kitchen. The latter is just a stone's throw away from my house and offers takeaway Cajun oyster stuffing. A quart of this zesty confection of French bread, gulf oysters and vibrant seasoning ($12.95) is enough to satisfy three to four Thanksgiving revelers...or just one very hungry Joanna.

The list so far:

No. 3: Oyster sliders at Lucille's
No. 4: Oysters on the half shell at Liberty Kitchen
No. 5: Oysters Victoria at The Queen Vic Pub & Kitchen
No. 6: Pearly Whites po-boy at BB's Cafe
No. 7: Fried oysters and deviled eggs at BRC Gastropub
No. 8: Oyster stew at Danton's
No. 9: Oysters Baton Rouge at Pappadeaux
No. 10: Oyster caesar salad at Ragin' Cajun

I will definitely try this out, but is this really good any other time than Thanksgiving?  This may have made more sense a few notches down the list.
