Upcoming Events: Hoppy Hours and Halloween Dinners
Whatcha doing tonight? Nothing? Well, now you're doing something: coming to the Houston Press Craft Beer Hoppy Hour at MKT Bar inside Phoenicia. Hoppy Hour kicks off at 4 p.m. and runs through 7 p.m., featuring beers from Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co. and food to go with it. Flights are $7 and come with a food pairing from MKT Bar, but there's also $5 glasses of wine and $4 draft beers to round out the evening -- plus music from Nick Gaitan and the Umbrella Man.
Craft Beer Hoppy Hour will run every month through January on the third Friday of each month, with a different local brewery spotlighted each time -- so mark your calendars for November 16, December 21 and January 18, and we'll see you there!
BeerFeast will feature 40 different breweries and more than 60 beers, with a special emphasis on pumpkin ales for the fall weather. The tap list includes brewers from both coasts, from Ommegang to Stone, with plenty of local brews in between. And every hour on the hour, the Flying Saucer will tap limited-edition brews including one-off local creations from Karbach and Buffalo Bayou. The cost is $30 or $65 for VIP tickets.
The Fall Beer Fest will feature more than 40 Texas artisan brews paired with chef-crafted cuisine and live entertainment from Molly & the Ringwalds. Food will be provided by Ryan Braden from Brenner's on the Bayou, Brian Miner from the Original Brenner's, Carlos Rodriquez from Vic & Anthony's, Chef Trevor White from Oceanaire and Morton's and pastry chef Megan Edwards. The cost is $50 (plus tax) in advance and $65 (plus tax) at the door. VIP tickets go for $100 (plus tax) .
Which beer festival are you going to choose? If you plan wisely, you might just be able to do both.
Believe it or not, Houston does have a Transylvanian restaurant: Charivari, which specializes in German, Austrian and Eastern European dishes from owner Johann Schuster's homeland of Transylvania, Romania. And now, Jewish deli Kenny & Ziggy's is getting in on the Transylvanian action this Halloween - for one night only.
The deli is hosting a Bite of Transylvania dinner on Wednesday, October 31, starting at 7 p.m. Five courses of Romanian, Hungarian and other Transylvanian specializes will be served alongside beer pairings from the popular Shmaltz Brewing Company (makers of the famed HE'BREW, a gourmet kosher beer). Live music will be provided all evening by Zingari, and the total cost of the meal is $65 (not including tax or tip). Call 713-679-8453 for reservations.
Do you have your Halloween costume picked out yet? Even if you aren't going trick or treating anymore, you can still do the adult version of dressing up and getting (almost) free food, thanks to Chipotle. On Halloween, anyone who visits in costume from 4 to 11 p.m. will get their burrito for only $2. Better yet, all proceeds from the sales of $2 "Booritos" go to benefit the Cultivate Foundation, the Chipotle-created foundation that is "committed to creating a more sustainable and healthful food supply and to raising awareness concerning food issues."
Last but not least - get ready for another St. Arnold-sponsored Food Truck Friday, coming up soon on November 2. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., we'll be featuring four of our favorite food trucks at the House of Dereon: Koagie Hots, Kay's Kitchen, Zeapod Cakery and Flaming Patties.
