Special K Flatbread Breakfast Sandwiches: Quick & Tasty

The pepper jack cheese has a little bit of a kick.

I love Special K products. The cereals, snack bars and chips are always tasty. While shopping at Walmart, I came across a new product in the frozen section -- breakfast flatbreads, all less than 250 calories. I decided to give them a try.

With choices from sausage, egg and cheese, ham, egg and pepper jack cheese, or egg with vegetables and pepper jack cheese, I decided to try the ham, egg and pepper jack cheese sandwich.

The little breakfast sandwiches have a thin flatbread holding a round fluffy egg, thin slice of ham and a slice of pepper jack cheese. All you have to do is unwrap the plastic, stick it in the microwave, and cook for one minute and 15 seconds, then let it sit for one more minute and you're ready to eat.

I was a little worried the sandwich wouldn't be enough for breakfast, but each component of the sandwich is full of flavor. The pepper jack cheese comes with a little kick, so be ready for it.

You can definitely wrap one of these up in a paper towel to eat on the go.

The ham, egg and cheese flatbread breakfast sandwich came in at 200 calories, 8 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber and 12 grams of protein. For breakfast, this seems like a healthy choice.

All the sandwiches are less than 250 calories, with the sausage, egg and cheese coming in with the most at 240 calories, 11 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber and 14 grams of protein. But, in comparison to the sausage, egg and cheese Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, these Special K flatbreads are not the healthiest choice. They may have fewer calories, but they have more grams of fat, less protein, more sodium and more cholesterol than the Jimmy Dean sandwiches. They still taste great. I haven't seen these products in Kroger or H-E-B, so check your local Walmart in the freezer section.

Better still are homemade egg mcmuffins.  Just buy a microwave egg cooker.  You can even make them at the office as long as there is a microwave and a toaster.  Works out to be about a buck per sandwich, and is done in about a minute or two.  300 calories and 12 fat grams.
