What's Cooking on Pinterest? Nutella Twix Bars

My favorite part of these candy bars is the salty-sweet pretzels with the caramel.
I'd do anything for a Twix bar. They are my absolute, hands-down, favorite candy bar. You can't go wrong with a crunchy cookie, sticky caramel and irresistibly delicious chocolate coating.

So, when I found a how-to recipe on Pinterest, of course I decided that I had to make them. However, this isn't the classic Twix bar recipe; instead of a cookie, there are pretzels, and instead of just having caramel on the inside, there is Nutella as well. Talk about a wonderful combination of ingredients.

Start by preparing all of the ingredients to be assembled -- this will make your life a whole lot easier. Line up two honey-wheat pretzel rods (I used Rold Gold) next to each other to create the base of your candy bar. Then, cut the square caramel candies in half. You need four halves per each two pretzel sticks.

Microwave the caramel candies just enough to make them pliable.
Once you halve the caramel candies, place them on a paper plate to be softened in the microwave; this makes the caramel more pliable so you can attach them to the pretzel rods. Now that you have your pretzels assembled, microwave the caramel candies for eight to ten seconds. This is just enough time to make the caramel candies soft so you can stick them to the pretzel rods.

Next, scoop about 1/3 cup of Nutella into a plastic bag. Cut the tip off the corner of the plastic bag and squirt a small amount of Nutella on the pretzel side of the candy bars. You might need to hold the bar in your hands while you do this. Using a knife, spread the Nutella to make a smooth layer.

To finish the candy bars, melt 2/3 cup of dark chocolate, or whatever type of chocolate you prefer, and dip the candy bars into the chocolate to cover completely. Use a fork to pick up the candy bars, place them in the chocolate (Nutella side up) and then use it to lift out of the bowl to strain off the extra chocolate.

If you want to increase the saltiness from the pretzel sticks, sprinkle a small amount of sea salt on top of the chocolate coating. I decided to stay true to the candy bar and leave it out, but the next time I make these candy bars, I will try it with the extra touch of sea salt.

Once you have coated every candy bar in the chocolate, place them on a sheet of parchment paper and stick them in the fridge for about 20 minutes, or the freezer for nearly ten minutes. The chocolate will set, and you'll have a finger-licking, crunchy candy bar. There is enough sweetness in the honey-wheat pretzel rods to satisfy that sweet cookie craving from an original Twix. The Nutella and caramel create a delicious creamy layer, while the dark chocolate coating brings all the wonderful salty-sweet flavors together with its bittersweet taste.
