Sweet & Savory dinners at Ralph Smith Studios always sell out, so act fast.
First and foremost, go check out today's Voice Daily Deal. It's the first time we've partnered with 100% Taquito, and today's deal gets you $20 worth of food for $10. For those (like me) who are terrible at math, that's half-off your meal. Do you know how many cups of elote you can buy for $20? A lot. And you'll only pay $10 for them. So...y'know...get on that.

Next Wednesday, September 5, you can help raise funds for the Buffalo Bayou Partnership just by picking up some groceries at Whole Foods Market on your way home from work. All Houston and Sugar Land locations are hosting a 5% Community Giving Day throughout the day to benefit Buffalo Bayou Partnership, a non-profit dedicated to revitalizing and transforming Buffalo Bayou, which the group calls "Houston's most significant natural resource." Whole Foods will donate 5 percent of the day's net sales from all six area locations to this great cause.

Speaking of good causes... Another of the popular Sweet & Savory dinners benefiting Lucky Dog Rescue has been announced, this one on Sunday, October 21 at Ralph Smith Studios. The dinners -- helmed by pastry chef Rebecca Masson -- always sell out, and this one will likely be no exception.

That's because the chef line-up at this Sweet & Savory dinner is worthy of its very own Top Chef episode: Randy Evans of Haven, John Sheely of Mockingbird Bistro, Philip Speer of Uchi, Ryan Lachaine of Underbelly, Ned Elliot of Foreign & Domestic in Austin, Joe Baker of Le Cordon Bleu in Dallas and many more. The dinner is limited to 125 guests and tickets are $100 a person. Reserve your spot by going to www.luckyrescue.org and making a $100 donation.

Mesquite-grilled quail are on the menu at Sylvia's upcoming wine dinner.
Coming up later this month, Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen on Woodway will be hosting its first-ever five-course wine dinner. Special guest Bruce Stewart from Morande USA will share the stories behind the Viña Morandé wines that Sylvia's will serve starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18. Courses include enchiladita de calabacita with mesquite-grilled sea bass and an "Enchilada Extravaganza" with three of Sylvia's most famous mini enchiladas. The cost is $65 per person (not including tax and tip). For reservations, call 713-334-7295.

The Celebrity Chef Tour benefiting the James Beard Foundation is once again coming to Brennan's on Thursday, September 27, for a night of culinary celebration with Houston's top chefs. Several of Houston's most notable chefs - including Hugo Ortega, Philippe Schmit, Justin Yu and former Brennan's chef Chris Shepherd - will come together along with executive chef Danny Trace for an evening of spectacular dining.

"We are once again honored to host the James Beard Celebrity Tour at Brennan's and welcome a some of Houston's finest Chefs to create a lavish six course culinary experience," says owner Alex Brennan-Martin. Trace and Brennan-Martin invited Ortega, Schmit, Yu and Shepherd to participate because each brings a different flavor and element to the food culture of Houston.

A portion of the evening's proceeds benefit to the James Beard Foundation educational programs, which include continuing education classes, conferences, children's programs and scholarship opportunities for aspiring culinary students. To date, the Celebrity Chef Tour has raised more than $850,000 for the Foundation. Tickets are available for $170 per person, which includes wine pairings, tax and tip. Reserve your spot calling Jeff Black at 720-201-1853 or by visiting www.celebritycheftour.com.

If 100% Taquito has elotes, it's the first I've heard of it.  It isn't on their regular menu.
