Upcoming Events: Ultimate Umami and an Incredibly Romantic Fundraiser
What happens when two of the city's best chefs come together for one dinner? Ultimate Umami. That's the name of the multi-course dinner that's taking place on Sunday, August 26, when Chris Shepherd of Underbelly joins chef Manabu Horiuchi at Kata Robata. The duo's dinner will explore and highlight each chef's unique style, creativity and passion for local ingredients - and reservations are absolutely required. Call 713-526-8858 to save your spot now. Note: The dinner has now been sold out.
Fratelii's is celebrating 12 years with a big family dinner.
This coming Sunday, Montrose hotspot Paulie's will be hosting a fundraiser that's equal parts romantic and charitable. Longtime employee Josh Busby and his fiancée, Chandler Hamilton, have requested a fundraiser in lieu of any wedding presents -- but the money's not for them. Instead, it will be used to help open a coffee shop/bakery in Haiti, where Busby and Hamilton will be helping Haitians to make coffee, bake bread and run their own shop.
Along with live music from other Paulie's staff members, chef Michael Gaspard will be serving a menu of "Dirty South" dishes such as sweet potato gumbo and crispy veal tongue. Busby will even be auctioning off rare beers from his own personal collection, so beer nerds -- this is your official notification to show up. Admission is $10; plates of food will cost extra.
Fratelli's is celebrating its 12th anniversary by saying thank you to its guests with an incredibly priced five-course dinner on Wednesday, August 22. For only $36, chef and co-owner Teresa Tadeo-Wittman will be serving dishes such as spicy crab cake with fresh Gulf crabmeat in a creamy lobster sauce, veal cannelloni in a béchamel sauce and fresh Gulf flounder fillet with tomatoes and caper berries. Reserve your seat for this once-a-year dinner by calling 713-957-1150.
August is National Catfish Month, and Prince's Hamburgers is taking that opportunity to host its very own in-house Catfish Festival through August 31. On the menu will be four different fried catfish dishes to choose from, all at a special price. "There is nothing like golden-brown fried catfish and onion rings for lunch or dinner," says owner John Broussard.
Included in the specials are Prince's Famous Fried Catfish Sandwich for $5.59 and the All-Day Friday Blue Plate Special, which features fried catfish filets sliced into tenders, homemade tartar and cocktail sauces, and your choice of two sides -- mashed potatoes, house salad, black-eyed peas, french fries, sweet potato fries, coleslaw or onion rings -- for only $7.99.
