Sip On Some Chick-fil-A Haterade Tonight at Grand Prize Bar...for Charity

Actual fries served out of Grand Prize Bar's kitchen subject to change...

In the wake of Beaver's pro-gay rights, anti-Chick-Fil-A sandwich going national -- even the anchors on CBS This Morning were talking about the Chick-on-Chick Filet at the Houston icehouse this morning -- Grand Prize Bar is getting in on the action, too.

The Montrose dive bar, which has lately been hosting a rotating lineup of food truck chefs in its kitchen each night, is offering a special tonight for all the fans of gay rights and opponents of Chick-fil-A COO Dan Cathy's stance against gay marriage. The bar posted on its Facebook page this afternoon:

tonite. chicken, waffle fries, fucking haterade. all food sales going to http://www.montrosecounselingcenter.org/ come eat some. 7pm

Co-owner Ryan Rouse clarified on his own Facebook page that there may or may not be waffle fries, however:

chicken, lemonade... possibly waffle fries??? (no guarantees on the fries) 100% of food sales headed to http://www.montrosecounselingcenter.org/ please come out, eat, raise some $ for a really amazing group in our neighborhood. prolly kicking off around 7 or 8pm.

The Montrose Counseling Center provides community services for a broad spectrum of topics, from emergency pantry supplies and antiviolence seminars to youth counseling classes and HIV/STI prevention and testing programs.

Some people have a bar to use as a platform, some a kitchen, and some just have a comment box. I believe what Grand Prize was trying to achieve was to mock the hate and show some good for Montrose. Proceeds will go to a place that offers support, housing, and an ear for our GLBT community-not for cigarettes. Seems like some missed the point of what Rouse set out to do because they were hitting the Haterade too soon.

last nights event was fun and i am glad i was a part of it . 100% of the proceeds went to Montrose counseling center. the event raised a little over $1000. from chicken sandwiches.

Taking advantage of their customers by offering a delicious meal at an affordable price and donating a portion of proceeds to chariity? Really? And Beavers was offering a special with a little humor? The nerve of them! Making their customers smile? How could they!

in fact, the more I think about it, places like Grand Prize and Beaver's using this debate to drive business is pretty disgusting

well, at least the hipsters at GP are contributing money to a cause. aside from funding their mixology and marlboro lights habits. that said, one could argue this is bordering on profiteering at the expense of the GLBT community. why couldn't "it boy" Rouse simply make a donation to the MCC, as opposed to adding fuel to the fire and selling a shit load of $10 Manhattans as a fringe benefit? What's next? Changing "Ghetto Dinners" to "Pillow-Biter Suppers?' It would be best if restauranteurs and bar owners leave this debate to the lunatic fringe.
