Want this place to open sooner? Go do some constructive drinking there tomorrow.
I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but tell the boss now: Tomorrow is National Duck Out for a Drink Day. I couldn't make up something this awesome. Even though the day itself isn't technically tomorrow.

"Unfortunately, August 25th, the day the holiday has traditionally been celebrated the last few years, falls on a Saturday this time around," writes The Awl. But that's okay. It just means that we'll all be celebrating it tomorrow, August 24. Like you have anything more productive to do on a Friday afternoon anyway.

So here's the plan: OKRA's new all-charity bar, the bluntly named Charity Saloon, is hosting an open house fund-raiser tomorrow by pure coincidence. And the open house even starts during the perfect ducking-out part of the day: at 3 p.m. But, wait -- is the downtown bar even open yet?

Strictly speaking, no. "While the bar isn't even close to being remodeled," says co-owner Bobby Heugel, "a good time for all is certain."

The place will be filled up come tomorrow and Saturday.
Instead, Charity Saloon will be open for two days -- Friday and Saturday, from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. both days -- to raise funds for the continued renovation of the space, which was originally built in 1882 as the Casino Saloon. Says a press release:

The bar will be operated for two days by OKRA's General Leadership Council. So be prepared to see a stellar lineup of Houston bar figures slinging drinks and having a good time all night, including Ryan Rose (Grand Prize Bar), Scott Repass (Poison Girl Bar, Antidote and Black Hole Coffee), Brad Moore (Grand Prize Bar and Big Star Bar), Bobby Heugel (Anvil Bar & Refuge) and many others.

In addition, Heugel and crew will be offering a public service the following day to anyone interested in starting up their own local business.

On Sunday, August 26, he'll be teaching "a restaurant and bar business plan class open to the public" from 3 to 6 p.m. Heugel will be teaching the course straight from the original business plan that's being used to open the Charity Saloon, should anyone be interested in getting some helpful information straight from the horse's mouth. There's no need to RSVP, either, says Heugel: "Just show up ready to learn."

man, you never miss a chance to pimp Huegel. I suppose you have some kissing up to do, however, after your little lovers' spat surrounding the parking at Hay Merchant. How about suggesting that we all have a drink anywhere we choose? As opposed to a bar that isn't even open yet?

@foowocker I bet you are alot of fun to be around, get a fucking life dud.
