Lobster tacos. Yes, please!
One of the many things that intrigues me about the Victorian era was how the general overabundance of shellfish meant foods like lobster were more fare for the hoi polloi than the aristocratic minority. This year, a bumper crop in the Northeast has once again made lobster cheaper for the masses. And with the lowered cost of bulk orders for restaurants, chefs are getting creative in their uses of this crustacean. Here are 10 Lobster Dishes to Try in Houston.

No. 6 Lobster Tacos at Jonathan's The Rub

If you're going to Jonathan's The Rub, there are few reasons not to order their acclaimed burger. The most compelling one might be the lobster tacos.

Although chef and owner Jonathan Levine has clearly made himself at home in Texas, his Northeastern roots still influence his cooking as evidenced by this Martha's Vineyard Meets Mexico City fusion dish. Combining a sweet Maine-style lobster salad with fiery chipotle peppers and a piquant tomatillo salsa, the lobster tacos simultaneously suggest all the flavors associated with choppy New England seas as well as sultry Southwestern desert. Thick avocado slices serve as a lovely creamy binder between the seafood and vegetable components.

Despite the fact that the corn tortillas are up to the task of containing the interior fillings, you may be tempted to eat these tacos as served (open face) with a fork. Resist that urge. Throw propriety to the wind and take that taco into your own hands. You're going to be licking your fingers regardless.
