Backstreet Cafe takes the concept of the seafood sandwich to a whole new level by layering chunks of battered lobster, onion rings, lettuce, tomato and red pepper rémoulade in between two large slices of brioche.
For anyone who thinks deep-fried lobster is the epitome of vulgarity, please try this sandwich. Sure, lobster in its purest form, boiled with a dash of melted butter, is absolutely transcendent. But that doesn't mean a layer of batter demeans the distinctive taste and texture of this crustacean.
The oily crisp plus the spicy rémoulade are the perfect complement to the sweet lobster meat, which definitely holds its own in the face of equally rich flavors. For those who long for the notes of mayonnaise common to the lobster roll, there's a side of creamy red potato salad.
