The Lobster Omelet at Union Kitchen.
One of the many things that intrigue me about the Victorian era was how the general overabundance of shellfish meant foods like lobster were more fare for the hoi polloi than the aristocratic minority. This year, a bumper crop in the Northeast has once again made lobster cheaper for the masses. And with the lowered cost of bulk orders for restaurants, chefs are getting creative in their uses of this crustacean. Here are 10 Lobster Dishes to Try in Houston.

No. 10: Lobster Omelet at The Union Kitchen.

If your inner ascetic protests that eating lobster for the first meal of the day is unforgivably decadent, tell him or her that it's a historical tradition. Lobster salad was the featured dish of nineteenth-century special-occasion breakfasts, and at Houston's Union Kitchen, you can similarly celebrate at weekend brunch with the lobster omelet.

Folded into the layers of fluffy egg are chunks of rosy lobster flesh and grated white cheddar cheese. A dressing of dill crème fraîche and fresh avocado slices provides a certain botanical creaminess to the dish, and pairs well with the buttery egg and savory side of roasted potatoes.

At $16 the lobster omelet is not the most inexpensive menu item, but it's certainly the most impressive in appearance as well as taste. And you can't put a price on eating lobster in your Sunday pajamas.

I have been consistently unimpressed with Union Kitchen on Memorial, after 4 attempts.  I don't get the hype surrounding this place.  And the lobster omelet doesn't look like something that's likely to coax me back in there.

Just hope there will be a lobster roll in there somewhere!

No really, where are the other nine?

@AlleeKatze They'll be coming once a day for the next 10 days. Two weeks of lobster love!

Right no doubt, I'd prefer not to wait another 9 days or worse 9 weeks for the remainder of this list..

@gossamersixteen No, I hear that. The countdown is designed to run so you actually have time to try all the dishes before, um, the lobster season ends. Or something. Some of the dishes are specials that will only be available for 1 or 2 months; others are menu mainstays. I will try to indicate if it's the former in my posts.

@AlleeKatze Didn't want to overwhelm y'all with too much lobster food porn at once. People have been known to perish from such exposure.
