This Thursday, June 7, head out to the so-called Best Block in Houston to help celebrate the birthday of a local legend, pitmaster Adam Fisher. From 6 to 10 p.m., the Continental Club will be hosting a birthday extravaganza for Fisher, whose barbecue has been a fixture at the concert venue for a dozen years and which has even been voted Houston's Best Concert Food by our readers.

Born and raised in Houston, Fisher learned the art of barbecuing from his grandfather and continues the tradition with his wife, Lena, today. When the Fishers aren't cooking for concerts and music festivals around Houston, they're cooking for the homeless at Christway Ministries on Sundays.

And on Thursday, you can get some of Fisher's delicious barbecue for yourself along with discounts and deals from the surrounding bars and restaurants: free chips and salsa at Tacos A Go-Go, for example, and specialty cocktails at Double Trouble. And when you've had your fill of Fisher's 'cue, head over to Natachee's Supper 'N Punch to see Houston blues legends PeeWee Stevens and Pops Stewart play a live show from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, June 12, Bistro Provence will host a wine dinner featuring popular rosé wines of Bandol along with the area's largest importer and most avid promoter of the wines, Amine Matta with Bandol Wine LLC. The dinner, created by owners Jean-Philippe and Geneviève Guy and Chef Jeremy Griffin, will feature five wines paired with a five-course French Provence menu. On the menu will be courses such as bouillabaisse paired with Dupuy de Lôme VDP Rosé 2011 and a fennel and chickpea salad with Domaine La Suffrène olive oil paired with Domaine La Suffrène VDP Rosé 2011. The dinner starts promptly at 7 p.m. and costs $68 per person (plus tax and gratuity). Call 713-827-8008 for reservations.

It's lights, camera and action at Kenny & Ziggy's on Thursday, June 21, when the restaurant hosts a very special benefit for The Hartley Film Foundation, preserving Jewish culture in film for the documentary Deliman. Featuring musical entertainment from Grammy-winner Lorin Sklamberg of The Klezmatics, the evening will be a delicious salute to award-winning documentarian Erik Greenberg Anjou. The New York-based filmmaker will be in attendance to discuss his newest project, Deliman, in which Ziggy Gruber -- owner and chef of Kenny & Ziggy's -- has a substantial role. The film documents the remaining great Jewish delis across the country.

For dinner that evening, Gruber will host a Roumanian Steak House Dinner served family-style, including Stuffed Kishka, Roumanian Karnatzlack and Chopped Liver (made tableside), Roumanian Steak with Tzibalech, Grilled Salmon with Bessarabian Rissotto, Chocolate Egg Creams and Chocolate Bobka. Tickets are $250 per person and reservations must be made no later than June 7. The dinner will be held at 7 p.m.; call Jeanne Magenheim at 713-679-8453 to reserve a seat.

Finally, Anthony Bourdain -- author of Medium Raw and host of The Travel Channel's No Reservations -- is headed back to Houston for another speaking engagement sponsored by the Society for the Performing Arts. And this time, he's bringing renowned chef Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin and Bravo's Top Chef along with him. Bourdain and Ripert plan to share stories and muse on the place of food in our personal, community and global life when the duo comes to Jones Hall on November 10. Tickets for the so-called "Good vs. Evil" event will go on sale through the SPA soon.
