Popular Montrose pizzeria Dolce Vita was damaged today by a fire that started at around 3:30 a.m. this morning. As reported by KPRC, the fire started in a Dumpster outside the rear of the restaurant and the flames soon spread to Dolce Vita itself.

"Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes and found heavy fire coming from the first floor of the three-story restaurant," said the Houston Fire Department in a statement this morning. "After the main body of the fire was knocked down, additional crews were requested due to an extension of the fire into the attic area." All said and done, it took roughly 45 firefighters to exhaust the flames, which were finally extinguished at 4:05 a.m.

"A prep area on the first floor, the second floor and attic sustained heavy damage," said KPRC, which had video of the fire's aftermath. "The dining area did not seem to be affected, but the kitchen area was damaged."

The fire caused about $40,000 worth of damage, according the HFD. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the restaurant will be closed today but hopes to reopen as soon as possible.

The people who are out of a job will suffer the most. Speaking from personal experience during the last hurricane Marco will do next to nothing to help his average employee. I hope I am wrong,

Sad news. Gives me an excuse to try Poscol again, it's been a while. And I recently tried a very decent pizza at La Fisheria, happily surprised.(Did you know it's kind of trendy for many Mexicans to eat their pizza with Worcestershire sauce?)

Hopefully the cleanup with help the rancid smell that is always in the 2nd floor dining area.
