Wine Fair Cy Fair: A Celebration of Wine, Beer and Food to Take Place this Saturday in Cypress
There seems to be an unwritten rule that all top-notch food-and-drink festivals have to take place inside the loop. Lucky for us, the folks at Food and Vine Time Productions are slowly changing the rules; little by little, they've taken praiseworthy food-and-wine festivals to Houston suburbs that traditionally have gone without such events. To Katy, they introduced Sip N' Stroll. For The Woodlands, they created Wine & Food Week. They took Haute Wheels Houston to Northwest Houston.

Now, Food and Vine Time Productions and the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce are making Cypress the recipient of its own food-and-wine affair. This Saturday, the first-ever Wine Fair Cy Fair will take place at Cypress Village Station from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.
Wine will be the star of the show, with more labels represented than we're able to count. Some of the highlights include approachable Napa Valley wines by Aquinas, highly ranked Chateau Tanunda wines from Australia, refreshing white wines from Canada's Fontana Candida, and wines by Langtry Estate & Vineyards, the first wine producer in the U.S. to earn its own appellation (Guenoc).
If wine doesn't float your boat, you'll have an equally respectable list of beers to choose from. At the Backyard Grill Beer Garden, you'll have Karbach, Rahr & Sons, Saint Arnold, and ZiegenBock brews to sip on.
Best of all, your entry ticket allows you all of the beer and wine samples you'd like -- there will be no drink ticket system. So rather than dedicating your time to purchasing drink tickets and doing complicated math in your head to calculate how much more you can afford to drink, you'll be able to sample with abandon. (For this same reason, you may want to consider having a designated driver.)
Saturday, April 28, 2012, 5:30-8:30 pm
Tasty food will be just as plentiful as beer and wine -- expect to sample Cuban cuisine such as ropa vieja, black beans, and plantains at El Rey taqueria's booth; crab cakes with chipotle sauce from Merche!; eggplant rollini with spinach and mozzarella by Antonia's Cucina Italiana; fresh tuna with pickled relish from 1252 Tapas Bar; and coconut macarons with white chocolate and apricots served up by Northwest Forest Conference Center.
And, for all the burger fanatics reading this: Backyard Grill will host a live Burger Challenge
at the event, where competitors will race to eat a gargantuan burger. Up for the challenge? There are still some free slots (out of ten to be filled) in the competition -- all you have to do to participate is visit Backyard Grill to fill out an entry form. Not only will you have a stab at winning the competition, you'll also get complimentary tickets to Wine Fair Cy Fair, just for being brave enough to sign up for the challenge.
Tickets for this event are going fast -- make sure you purchase your tickets sooner rather than later if you plan to attend, as the they could very well sell out in the next couple of days.
