Where Are We Eating?

"The original chef of this restaurant is back and the food is amazing!" wrote the photographer who took this photo of chili fried fish at a popular Sichuan restaurant right in the busy heart of Chinatown. Don't let all those bright red peppers scare you off, though. The photographer claims: "It's really delicious, the chili and Szechuan numbing pepper with cleanly fried fish fillet."

I've heard that Sichuan cuisine is trending pretty hot now in Hong Kong, Tapei and Shanghai.... excited to try this place. I've read the pepercorns are numbing, like cloves, but also hot in a restrained sorta way.

Looks like my dinner last night, garlic prawns with sichuan peppercorn salt, and tempura jalapenos.. Delicious.

I want to say Suzie Wong's World, but they just opened.  Definitely worth a try if you're into Szechwan, I found they have a great beef dish.

Suzie Wong's World is not in Chinatown, it's next to Phonicia on Westheimer.

I tried it last week when it opened and was impressed. The woman is the daughter of Chinese doctors and blends her own teas, featuring some herbal blends for energy, balance, digestion etc. Served by the pot as it should be.
