Tomorrow is the grand opening of Houston's newest Chick-Fil-A (2222 Shearn). And above is the insane line of people who created a tent city today in advance.

Why? Because the first 100 people in the door tomorrow morning receive free Chick-Fil-A for a year.

"We do this with all grand openings," said a Chick-Fil-A employee by phone today. Franchise owner Drew Ellis and his managers were all at a company luncheon, and the sole employee left to man the store seemed a little bemused but not surprised. There were at least several dozen people camped outside this afternoon at 2 p.m., with room for more if you're feeling brave.

If you're hoping to be one of those first 100 in the door tomorrow, better get that old pup tent out of the attic and head on down today.

Chick-fil-a is this popular because the make something a lot of people want.

NO ONE EVER WALKS INTO A FAST FOOD JOINT THINKING I'M GOING TO GET SOMETHING HEALTHY.

No fast food joint makes anything healthy.  And don't point to salads, most of those have more calories than the burgers unless you eat it with no dressing.

Also, no one forces you to eat a fast food joint everyday.  I hold back to once a week as a guilty pleasure.

I paid 7 homeless people to wait in line for me. I'll be scalping my coupons on the next corner in 3 hours. I hooked one of them up as a mobile wifi hotspot so actually it was a win win for everyone waiting already.TA

So sad! Lets start calling Houston Fat City.  Does anyone really need that much fried chicken?  Anyone who thinks this place is healthier than any other fast food joint should check their blood sugar. Remember insulin before you eat....

I started boycotting Chick-fil-a about a year ago when I found out they support anti-gay organizations. Who needs hate with their chicken? Not me, I'll go to Cane's.

Katharine....do you know if Chick-fil-a reports the winning to the IRS, there for causing you to have to claim those 365 Chicken sandwhiches as income. I remember reading about a gentlemen that won a donut a day contest from the Astros and Shipleys and ended up having to claim it even though he didnt even go get the donuts.

AFC Champs 2012! Well on our way to the title defense. Fuck, I wish there was a way to embed the Aaron Rodgers/Discount Double Check gif here...

Free Chick-Fil-A for a year just sounds more like a threat than something to win.

P.S.  All Chick-fil-a's have openings that are this big no matter where they are located.

If you boycott Chick-fil-a for this reason, then you need to boycott: (pretty much everything you ever did commerce with).

Boycotters need to grow up and learn a little about economics and supply chains.

Does this mean you need full run down of every place you purchased anything you ever used to ensure that they only support your political causes?  Just because one franchiser (not the corporate entity) happens to give money to a group you don't like, you blast the whole establishment?  Talk about immaturity running rampant.

Many companies that go so far as outwardly support gay issues happen to use support services and supply chains that...GASP!...may not support these issues.  On this technicality, practically every business establishment is guilty of contributing to anti-gay or pro-gay (and many times both!) causes.

This is why boycotts are only self serving promotional vehicles and do nothing in the end when pushed on businesses.

Did you know they're also closed on Sundays?

Folks were too blinded by the chicken to see that this has always gone on right in front of them. Chick-Fil-A never tried to hide what their stance was on these issues.

Yup, same thing at the one on 59 @ BW8 last year.  It's like Christmas at Best Buy.

Hey Kyle, it isn't just a franchisee, it is Chickfila itself, through its WinShape foundation, to the tune of millions of dollars: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W...

And obviously there are different levels of responsibility, and a person can't police the entire supply chain of a product usually, but with Chick-Fil-A it is rather overt and obvious. A person doesn't need to win every single company through the supply chain. If just one relents, that's less money going to bigoted groups.

Besides, most companies aren't spending money on lobbying for things that don't have anything to do with making money. Chick-Fil-A is pretty unique.
