Casares is known as Houston's "enchilada queen."
Sylvia Casares, chef and owner of Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen, was shot in the stomach on Monday night at her home near Fulshear, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.

Casares was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is currently in stable condition at an undisclosed Houston hospital.

Casares's alleged shooter is Michael Warren, her boyfriend as well as a familiar face to those who frequented Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen's popular food truck, No Borders.

Warren often manned the food truck and was also a partner in the Sylvia's restaurant chain. Warren remains at large today.

According to KHOU, Warren "fled in a black 2004 GMC Yukon" after the shooting. His vehicle has Texas license plates 42M-VT1.

Warren is now considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should immediately contact Crime Stoppers at 281-342-8477 or the FBCSO at 281-341-4665.

Michael Warren is on the run and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Meanwhile, employees at the Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen location at 6401 Woodway have set up a guest book for friends and fans of Casares to sign with well-wishes. Guests are encouraged to come and write words of encouragement to Casares; the book will be taken to the hospital in a few days by family members.

According to a source close to Casares, she is expected to be released from the hospital within the week and will likely return to work within three months.

UPDATE: The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office reports on Facebook that Michael Warren was arrested Thursday afternoon at a Rosenberg hotel. The full statement:

Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office detectives along with a Texas Ranger arrested a man wanted for aggravated assault Thursday afternoon at a Rosenberg motel.

Acting on an anonymous tip, detectives arrested Michael Warren, 58, and he is charged with aggravated assault stemming from a shooting incident in the Foster Creek subdivision between Richmond and Fulshear Monday, March 12, 2012.

The incident occurred at the victim's residence in the 1400 block of Foster Lakes Drive. Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at the scene at about 9 p.m. Monday. Warren had already fled the scene in the victim's 2004 GMC Yukon.

The female victim of that incident has undergone surgery and is expected to recover. She is in stable condition in a Houston hospital.

Early Tuesday morning, a warrant was issued by District Judge Thomas Culver III and the manhunt began, stretching all the way to Lafayette, La., the suspect's hometown.

However, Warren was arrested at the Palace Inn, located at 26035 U.S. 59 near the intersection of FM 2218 in Rosenberg . The arrest occurred without incident.

Officials recovered the vehicle in the parking lot of a Lafayette hospital Thursday afternoon.

The suspect apparently was returned to Fort Bend County by a relative.

Warren is in the Fort Bend County Jail with a $100,000 bond.

Actually crow it wouldn't be paradise if guns were banned, but fewer people would be shot, and some companies would make a lot less money. A hole...

 Emotions over-riding rationality.

Or just a proverbial "internet tough guy"?

Sadly, from decades of experience, females tend to base decisions upon emotions and toss aside rational logical thought.

Not ALL females but enough to ensure they were denied the vote, being impaneled in juries etc.

Then "political correctness" arose, based upon emotions with facts and logic cast aside.

And the dainty little "Princesses" cry, whine and moan about "glass ceilings" and heaps of "that's unfair!!!"

Interestingly, I do not hear or read of females demanding they they be required to sign up for the draft and the obvious inordinate amount of attention and funds used for "women's health" and the bias so often seen in the legal system's sentencing of female law breakers, etc.

For amassed evidence at various Web sites search with MGTOW and real many male opinions and links to Web sites displaying the increasing pro-female anti-male bias within USA society.

I think he's blaming the shooter, but noting with emphasis how easy it is to get a gun in TX and US generally. You don't find shootings like this so commonly in the EU and Britain....and it's not because they don't have bad people who lose their tempers.

Terrible indeed. We've been hanging out at Sylvia's places since she got started on Dairy Ashford and have continued our pleasant visits at her Woodway restaurant since we moved to Tanglewood. Just saw her last Friday. A graceful, kind and passionately committed person.

Sylvia would not hurt a fly even in anger. Why anyone would want to hurt her is quite beyond us... and quite twisted. Prayers for our Sylvia and her family, and hopes for a speedy recovery.

Sylvia always has a smile on her face and seems to be a very nice person. I know she will recover quickly because of the support she will receive from her friends and the community. Another perfect example of the danger of guns.

@Gary, Having a gun would not have helped her unless you think she could have anticipated being shot, armed herself, then fired first. She's lucky to be alive and you're blaming the victim.

SO SAD. Sylvia is a heroine of the local restaurant scene, a great person, and I wish her the best recovery.

And, not 'but'... on the cheesy, local TV news JUST tonight: mass shootings in Galveston, and shootings at a Houston party. Each incident had victims that weren't well-known, but just as injured or dead. IS it time we look at how easily guns are had in Texas and America?

One trip to a shooting range will show anyone just how prevalent guns are here. Pistols, assault weapons, rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns, assault shotguns. With an array of kids, teens, men, women and everyone in-between shooting shit, it will freak out a person who is not from this subculture...or even me, who hunts and loves guns. AND These are only the VISIBLE people who shoot (maybe the most responsible, one could argue.

I've lived in Europe. They hunt. They shoot skeet and trap. But not everyone can buy a pistol or assault weapon with a jaunt to the store. It's fucked up and needs to be addressed here.

Mpdeaddrop

Not going to find many assault weapons at a shooting range. - By definition assault weapons must be "full automatic" capable. Highly regulated, very expensive.

Kylejack
Kylejack

Not correct. Assault rifles are automatic weapons, but "assault weapons" is a legal definition from Federal Assault Weapons Ban, that refers to things like pistol grip, bayonet mount, high capacity shotguns, and etc.

JCR2

Maybe. But sure are lots of assault weapons in the sense of being military style, which by definition, are for shooting people, not game. And lots of folks playing soldier with humanoid type targets.

Had the opportunity to meet her a few weeks ago when I checked out brunch at the Woodway location. I found her commitment to perfecting recipes and delivering the best possible product really inspiring. I hope she makes a full and speedy recovery.

Domestic abuse knows no boundries.  Thoughts are with her.

Shimakodrailers
Shimakodrailers

Actually, domestic abuse DOES know some boundaries. As bad as it is whenever it occurs, domestic abuse in other civilized countries doesn't end with a gunshot wound. Because not everyone who has a potential grievance and few bucks can head to the local Academy and buy a gun. And the gun culture there isn't as strong as here, especially in Texas.

There is a trade-off to gun-owning 'freedom' that Europe knows about. And you won't see the same sad results as here. Yet they still hunt and enjoy sporting arms.

Unnecessary comment.

and I'd guess you'd suggest saying something like "praying". Which is equally unnecessary, unless you greatly value talking to yourself.

Yes if guns were not available paradise would surely follow.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A...  Oops, maybe if we ban acid, then paradise would happen right quick?

And while we are at it, ban baseball bats, knifes, gasoline, cars, matches, scissors, the internet, ...

Thank your lucky stars and stripes that there was an armed population/... Maybe not after all.

Janeter3

You miss the point. Gun deaths are huge part of overall violent deaths in America. And violent deaths in America far outpace Europe's numbers. Europe has successfully limited the number of guns, especially handguns, without 'outlawing' them. And they haven't resorted to clubbing and poisoning en masse as far as I know.

I'm sure this guy easily bought his handgun, as most people do. And he used it in sudden anger against someone he knew, as much of the data predicts. You seem to be saying that there are equal number of violent deaths in countries where handguns are restricted, except by different means. I say you're wrong.

Texasota
Texasota

The Arab Spring? Any success that has come from that was as a result of nonviolent protesting. Libya was an obvious exception, but that required significant outside help.

Aoc Crow
Aoc Crow

Obviously you miss the point.  Are you going to have fewer violent deaths and injuries if guns are outlawed or will the item used for violence merely shift to the next handy heavy blunt object or even to something that requires planning such as acid, poison, arson, explosives, etc?

Arab spring and the US revolution show an armed population does have some advantages.

JCR2
JCR2

Well, if you want fewer gun deaths and injuries, rather than more, you might consider it. Obviously not Paradise. Obvious straw man.
