Sampler Plate: This Week in Food Blogs

Categories: Leftovers

Robb Walsh: In case you hadn't heard... Texas oyster season is now open! Look for Texas appellation oysters this year, especially from purveyors like Louisiana Foods and at the Saturday by-catch market from PJ Stoops.

Blog of an Aspiring Foodie: After a long absence, Chris is back with a fierce post worth a read if you're a beer fan of any persuasion, craft or otherwise: Why Can't the Big Brewers Make a Good Beer?

Examiner: As reported a few weeks back, NYC-based restaurant Le Cirque is making a nationwide tour through a pop-up restaurant headed by new chef Olivier Reginensi. The tour is hitting several cities -- Houston included, at The Downtown Club -- and Examiner has an article about what to expect at these elaborate pop-up dinners when you fork over the $150 ticket price.

Nomadic Root: The team behind Oxheart is busy getting their little restaurant rehabbed and ready to go, but that's easier said than done. On his blog, chef Justin Yu recounts some of the misadventures and struggles that he's encountered along the way, in a post that makes you grateful to restaurant owners and chefs who persist despite the many challenges that opening your own restaurant presents.

H-Town Chow Down: A tech-y post from tech-y guy Albert about some of the newer iPhone apps for foodies introduces us to Trover, Fondu and the Texas Monthly BBQ app (the last of which we've blogged about before). Fondu sounds especially interesting, although I'm not sure how helpful "microreviews" will ultimately be...

Eater Houston: Lastly, Eater Houston has some more scoop on Lucille's, the in-progress Southern restaurant being built in the Museum District. Renderings of the new spot have been released on Facebook, and they're darn pretty.

Glad to hear Fondu intrigues y'all! We do love bite-sized reviews, but trust me, that is not all we have in store :)
