Eight shopping days left 'til Christmas. Drink up.
Welcome back to the weekly roundup here at Eating Our Words, where we're honoring the spiritual and religious roots of the holiday season by keeping the "Saturn" in "Saturnalia!" We hope you'll join us in serving the traditional Christmas goose to your house servants this December 23.

We started the week off right with a look at the new wave of gourmet food trucks and how they stack up against the old guard of brick-and-mortar high-end restaurants. Well... how one food truck stacks up against one restaurant. But it's symbolic. Seriously, haven't you ever sat down in a fancy-ass restaurant and thought to yourself "Man, instead of seating me in a pristine cathedral next to an aquarium full of fish that each cost more than my car, wouldn't it be great if the chefs could just toss the food at me from a truck for a fraction of the price?" I haven't, but I'm going to start.

There's a new tapas bar open in someplace called "Vintage Park," and I'll be sure to try it out just as soon as I get my hands on some bellbottoms, as per the dress code.

'Tis the season to eat a lot of sugary holiday-themed crap, and we're helping you out by collecting the best of it right here. Of course, if you don't want to go the pre-packaged route and don't mind an embarrassing disaster, you can always make 'em yourself. Ah, the candyburger. Let's hope this is one of those food trends that doesn't catch on.

We took a food tour through Korea Town, a friendly neighborhood where the side dishes come out in droves. We also went in search of the city's best hot soups for a cold day, because it's December and we're just sort of assuming some cold weather will be showing up sometime soon.

Craft brewing is coming to Sugar Land; why, we have no idea. Cheap rent? Suburban house lushes? Needed to have as many Jack In the Boxes near the brewery as is humanly possible? We don't really need to know the reason. We're just happy to be getting more booze.

Speaking of which, the fizzy stuff makes a pretty good gift this holiday season, if there are any parties left to go to. We also covered some good gift ideas for the coffee snob, local cuisine enthusiast, and poor bastard who watches too much Iron Chef on your Christmas list. Honestly, we haven't all accepted that homemade ice cream sucks yet? Always has, always will.

Finally, the approaching holidays means one other thing: leftovers. Spruce 'em up and enjoy.
