Openings & Closings: Refined Refineries
As if the news that Dallas's Burger House and Colorado's Elevation Burger are coming to town wasn't enough, Houston's getting another interesting-looking addition to its vast burger scene: The Refinery: Burgers & Whiskey, which is busily remodeling and moving into the old 702 Patio Bar space at the corner of Dallas and Heiner, just on the outer edge of downtown.
Photo courtesy of Facebook The Refinery is bringing two things Houstonians love to its quiet corner of Midtown: burgers and booze.
According to its website, The Refinery will serve "hand-packed beef patties" and -- of course -- whiskey, all in a cheekily refinery-inspired space that has an industrial flair complemented by vintage signs from ghosts of gas stations past. The whole "refinery" bent to the place is a nice nod to Houston's big oil foundation, which has even been incorporated into The Refinery's logo. It hopes to be open on Christmas Day, with an associated barber shop next door opening next year.
Opening Christmas Eve is Triniti. If you missed Mai Pham's sneak peek into Chef Ryan Hildebrand's new restaurant earlier this week, go take a look at the modern space for yourself and tell me you don't think it's stunning.
Already open is Piqueo Restorante & Bar in Cypress, right next door to its sister restaurant, Mezzanotte. The two share an owner -- the affable Gerry Sarmiento -- but not cuisines. While Mezzanotte is strictly Italian, Piqueo is strictly Peruvian. It's also only open at dinner, but serves plenty of specialties like gaucho steak and Peruvian-style mussels.
In a short list of closings this week, B4-U-Eat reports that two seafood spots have cut bait: El Señor Fish Mexican Grill in Humble and The Breeze Restaurant in Galveston.
Stay tuned for next week, when we'll not only be counting down the month in Openings & Closings for December...but for the entire godforsaken year. It's a doozy, folks.
