Slate: In one of the most interesting pieces I read all week, Slate's Benjamin Phelan explains that one of the main reasons that Colorado can now consider pizza a vegetable is that there really is no such thing as a vegetable in the first place.

Dude, You Going to Eat That?: On that note, Dr. Ricky has a short blog post explaining the other part of the pizza-as-vegetable problem: "Fact is, we are skirting around the true mission: to expand the nutritional and culinary repertoire of our youth. Unfortunately, a lot of money is riding on profiting from keeping things monotonous - makes for a dependence on easily industrialized food systems."

Robb Walsh: In much happier news, Robb Walsh reports that Denis Wilson -- the same man behind such Houston institutions as Denis' Seafood and Jimmy Wilson's Seafood -- is opening a fast-casual restaurant in North Houston specializing in free-range chicken.

H-Town Chow Down: And in more happy news, Albert Nurick reports that The Woodlands has another food truck to add to its short roster -- and this one a barbecue truck, at that: Corkscrew BBQ.

Cheap Eats in Houston: If you spend less on food during the holidays in order to save for gifts, then Cheap Eats has some great tips for you...if you're willing to sign up for Foursquare: "Not completely sold on Foursquare yet? If the badges weren't a big selling point, let's see if two words will change your mind: FREE FOOD. "

CultureMap: Writing for CultureMap, Ruthie Johnson has the scoop on Pilot Light chefs Seth Siegel-Gardner and Terrence Gallivan's new casual pop-up dinners: inResidence. Dinners are $88 a person and the location changes with each meal, so follow the chefs on Twitter to keep up.

Jack Tyler Dines: Last but not least, it looks like we owe Don Julio's a revisit now that the restaurant has had time to get its act together. Jack Tyler dined at the Montrose Tex-Mex spot recently and reported an excellent meal from top to bottom -- and it looks like he tried half the menu while there.

Glad ole Jack got around to trying Don Julio's.

His comments here http://blogs.houstonpress.com/...seemed to suggest that he was dismissing the place out of hand.

Pretty accurate, except the fajitas part: they don't marinate their fajitas in chipotle; they use a black pepper based rub, but you can order the fajitas with chipotle sauce (and it's great!).
