Comment of the Day: A Mythical Sandwich

dude.jpg
Here on Eating Our Words, the commenters absolutely make the blog, and our Comment of the Day honors the best of the bunch.

Every day, we read you guys and pick the commenter, or commenters, who made us laugh, cry, salivate over something delicious, or think about things in a new way.

In return, we offer them a virtual White Russian.

Today marks religious holiday National Sandwich Day, and Jeff Balke, who might be a little TOO fond of this foodstuff, wrote about his top 10 in the city.

Several readers wrote in with their own favorites from around town, but it was writer Hbeard85 who really got us salivating, waxing poetic about a sandwich that requires a passport:

Best sandwich I ever had was not in Houston. Not even in Texas. Or the USA. The best sandwich I ever put in my mouth was a 2,30 euro sandwich from a boulangerie in Normandie. Picture it folks: Fresh, warm, thick baguette filled with REAL cuts of spiral ham, thick slices of holey swiss cheese, and the best part: glorious chunks of real butter. My heart is broken I cannot find a single shop in Houston to replicate this. Any suggestions short of buying a whole ham to eat sandwiches for the next month? God bless the French.

Jesus Christ, that sounds amazing, and we don't even like ham all that much.
