Openings & Closings: Wie Sagt Man "Remodeling" auf Deutsch?

Old Heidelberg: Remodeling, but not closed.
Earlier this week, we received an email from a concerned customer of Old Heidelberg: "I recently relocated back to Houston from Dallas. One place I have fond memories of is called The Heidelberg on Fountain View. I drove passed it recently and it appeared to be closed or under remodeling. Can you send out your food sleuths to see what's up with the Heidelberg?"

Indeed, on B4-U-Eat's website, the restaurant was listed as "closed." But a quick call to Old Heidelberg cleared up why: The restaurant is closed for remodeling "for the next month or so." Given the City of Houston's propensity to stall both remodels and openings, though, we're guessing that month could stretch on... In the meantime, there's always Rudi Lechner's and King's Biergarten.

Speaking of Pearland, B4-U-Eat reports that The Pie Garden -- which was supposed to be the town's answer to its own House of Pies -- has closed. Attempts to reach The Pie Garden failed; the numbers listed for the restaurant have been disconnected. It's okay, Pearland; you've still got Thanh Phuong, and its crème brûlée is better than any pie.

Also down for the count is Judge Roy Bean's Coffee Saloon in Galveston. According to its website, however, the closure -- like Old Heidelberg's -- is only temporary while it remodels its space.

In better news, Shepherd Park Draught House is open for business in the old Octane spot on N. Shepherd. Its Facebook page lists a substantial food menu in addition to craft brews like Karbach, Southern Star and No Label and even Houston's own, brand-new hard cider from Leprechaun. Brunch will be served on weekends from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes an intriguing "sake bloody mary" in its offerings.

Three popular places are moving this month, according to Eater Houston: French Riviera Bakery, Crawfish & Noodles and Chatkhara Grill. Kudos to the other two, but count me as sad to lose the charming little bakery that always felt like taking a temporary vacation away from Houston. Don't change too much, French Riviera...

In addition to Michael's Cookie Jar cookies and flaky treats from Oh My! Pocket Pies (and, of course, food trucks at lunch), Inversion will now be offering food from another local favorite: La Mexicana. La Mex's famous breakfast tacos will be for sale at the coffee shop starting this weekend.
