Comment of the Day: Japanese Kit Kat

Here on Eating Our Words, the commenters absolutely make the blog, and our Comment of the Day honors the best of the bunch.

Every day, we read you guys and pick the commenter, or commenters, who made us laugh, cry, salivate over something delicious, or think about things in a new way.

In return, we offer them a virtual White Russian.

Today Joanna O'Leary wrote about the ever-expanding world of Oreos, and it seems EOW Nation is a mixture of traditionalists and fans of mango and raspberry Oreos from China. Who knew?

And Dr. Ricky hipped us to something else:

What, you haven't seen the Japanese fascination and diversification of KitKats? Oh, let them diversify.

Yeah no, we hadn't seen that. As NPR notes, "in Japan, Kit Kats go far beyond chocolate, with flavors like ginger ale, soy sauce, creme brulee and banana." Yum?

Leave it to Japan to come up with crazy ass flavor options for perfectly normal foods.

On the savory side, check out what Pringles does around the world.  I recently ran across Hong Kong Fish Ball, Breezy Blueberry, and Cooling Cucumber varieties.  The thought of blueberry-flavored Pringles...[shudder].
